The Ash of War: Waves of Darkness is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Magic affinity and the Waves of Darkness skill. It is available within the first few hours of a run.
Waves of Darkness plunges the weapon into the ground and releases three expanding waves of darkness that deal magic damage all around the wielder. A strong attack follow-up swings the weapon in a powerful sweeping strike. The waves scale with Intelligence and deal steady stance damage, and the motion carries some hyper armor. It suits Intelligence and Strength builds using greataxes, great hammers, great spears and colossal weapons.
Stats
It grants the Magic affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Standard, Keen, Heavy, Quality or Cold. The skill costs 16 FP. It fits Colossal Sword, Greataxe, Great Hammer, Colossal Weapon and Great Spear.
How to Get Ash of War: Waves of Darkness Guide
- Obtained by trading the Remembrance of the Naturalborn with Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold.
- The remembrance is dropped by Astel, Naturalborn of the Void at the end of the Lake of Rot.
- Once obtained, it can be duplicated by trading Lost Ashes of War to Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold.

Skill
The waves expand outward, so they are most effective against enemies standing close or crowding in. The follow-up sweep is cheap and works well against targets caught by the waves. The skill cannot be parried, but the slow plunge leaves the wielder open to fast attackers at the start.
