Elden Ring - Colossal Weapons

Colossal weapons weigh 15 to 26.5 and demand 20 to 60 Strength, and they earn that cost by breaking stance and staggering enemies, never by trading hits.

Combat

Pros

• Physical attack rating at max standard upgrade is the highest among the heavy and unarmed classes, with the Duelist Greataxe at 416 at +25 and the Rotten Staff, Axe of Godfrey and Watchdog's Staff tied at 404.
• An Anvil Hammer at +10 with 80 Strength and 60 Faith reads 1161 attack rating two-handed, the highest unbuffed figure in the game, ahead of a Flame Art Giant-Crusher and the Staff of the Avatar.
• A Heavy Giant-Crusher at +25 reaches 895 attack rating two-handed at 60 Strength, and 893 one-handed or 965 two-handed at 80 Strength.
• Colossal hammers deal much more poise damage than the rest of the class, and all of them are Strike except the Fallingstar Beast Jaw, which is Pierce.

Cons

• Weight runs from 15 (Gazing Finger) to 26.5 (Giant-Crusher), and the Giant-Crusher alone weighs more than every Claw, Beast Claw and Hand-to-Hand weapon in the game put together.
• Strength requirements run from 20 (Gazing Finger) to 60 (Giant-Crusher), and 60 is the highest requirement among the heavy and unarmed classes.
• Only the Bloodfiend's Arm, Duelist Greataxe, Giant-Crusher, Golem's Halberd, Prelate's Inferno Crozier and Rotten Greataxe take affinities. The rest, including the Gazing Finger, Watchdog's Staff, Great Club, Axe of Godfrey, Fallingstar Beast Jaw, Shadow Sunflower Blossom, Anvil Hammer and Ghiza's Wheel, are Somber-upgraded or locked to a unique skill.
• Dexterity is nearly dead investment, since the best Dexterity scaling anywhere in the class at +0 is a single C, on the Rotten Greataxe.

Builds

Strength comes first, without apology.

• Entry is 20 Strength (Gazing Finger), but the payoff weapons sit at 28 to 45, and the Giant-Crusher wants 60, which it repays with S Strength scaling on Heavy +25.
• Endurance pays twice here, covering equip load for a 15 to 26.5 weight weapon and stamina for the swings.
• Two-handing is effectively mandatory, because the 1.5x Strength bonus is where the class lives and every headline attack rating above is the two-handed figure.
• Faith is the only realistic second stat (Anvil Hammer 20 Faith, Envoy's Greathorn and Staff of the Avatar 24, Shadow Sunflower Blossom 25), while Intelligence and Arcane are one-weapon detours, with the Gazing Finger at 20 Intelligence and the Bloodfiend's Arm at 16 Arcane.
• Because so few colossal weapons take affinities, the next chunk of damage per level comes from Strength and upgrade level rather than from re-infusing.

Notes

• Enemies run two separate systems, regular Poise, which decides interrupts, and Stance, which stuns and opens a critical attack. The Stance bar resets after 8 to 20 seconds unless the pressure continues, so colossal weapons want sustained hits rather than one big swing every 20 seconds.
• The axes and halberds among colossal weapons deal Standard or Standard and Pierce damage rather than Strike.
• Guard counters, a heavy attack immediately after a block, deal bonus Stance damage, and the Giant-Crusher's guard boost makes this a real option rather than a novelty.
• Charged heavy attacks are the class's damage engine and differ per weapon. The Duelist Greataxe has elevated charged heavy motion values, the Giant-Crusher somersaults forward, the Prelate's Inferno Crozier flings small enemies upward, and the Great Club, Gazing Finger and Shadow Sunflower Blossom use an overhead slam.
• Lion's Claw is a faster version of the Giant-Crusher's own charged heavy somersault and can be put on it.
