Ancient Vault - Alchemist is an Ancient Vault in the far west of the Springlands. Balthazar, the Alchemist, sleeps here in a Cinder Vessel until a Flameborn wakes him. The Flame marks the vault on the map during the quest Powerful Alchemy. Scavengers have made camp at the vault, and a Scavenger Bonfire stands on the site. A note left on their table points to a hidden stash and the sword Wailing Blade. The vault itself holds a gold chest in a lava chamber on its lower level.

Where to Find Ancient Vault - Alchemist - Map Location

The vault stands in the far west of the Springlands. The Scavenger Stash lies a short way to the south-east. The Critter Nest and the Egerton Salt Mines are to the east, and Fenrig's Farm is further north.

Quests

The Flame gives Powerful Alchemy once The Ancient Spires is done. Its objective says the Alchemist holds great knowledge of potions and spells. Waking him at his Cinder Vessel completes the first step. He then has to be placed in the base with a Summoning Staff. Once there, he explains that a small group of Ancients worked with humans to build the Cinder Vaults.

Chests

The gold chest sits on the lower level, inside the lava chamber. A wooden chest waits just outside that chamber, behind a breakable wall. A silver chest stands on top of the south-western tower. Reach it by gliding down from the top of the vault. Two more wooden chests sit inside the north-western tower and on the south-eastern platform.

Hidden Chests

The vault's gold chest waits at the end of a spike-trap walkway in the lava chamber on the lower level. Other chests hide behind walls inside the vault and on a tower that only a glide reaches.

Clear the Scavengers in the first gallery, where lava glows under the floor grates.
Take the staircase down to the lower level.
Follow the narrow walkway into the lava chamber.
Open the gold chest at the end of the walkway.
Watch for the spike traps, which the chest sets off when it opens.

Go down to the landing on the lower level, just outside the lava chamber.
Find the breakable wall beside the landing.
Break the wall to reach the wooden chest behind it.

Take the left doorway in the first corridor.
Open the sliding stone wall.
Loot the hidden chest behind it.

Silver chest on the south-western tower

Climb to the top floor of the vault.
Go through the double doors onto the patio.
Find the south-western tower below and to the right.
Glide down onto the top of the tower to reach the silver chest.

Lore Pages

The note "Stashed Our Haul" lies on a table outside the vault. Its writer tells a partner that the last haul was too good to share with the rest of the gang. He has hidden the sword in a cave that both of them know well. The note starts the hunt for the Scavenger Stash nearby.

Other Markers

A Return Beacon stands at the vault. It works as a respawn point and refills the Shroud timer. An anvil also stands on the site.
