Black Metal Scrap is torn off the Fulings that hold the Plains, and it is the one metal in Valheim that never comes out of the ground.
How to Get It
Leave the pickaxe at home, because scrap comes from fights, not deposits. Kill Fulings, Fuling Shamans and Fuling Berserkers wherever they camp in the Plains, and break open the chests in their villages, which often hold scrap too. The Plains punish poor preparation: Berserkers hit through weak armour and Deathsquitos arrive from nowhere, so go in fed and with a shield. Scrap will not go through a portal, so every piece has to be carted or sailed home to the Blast Furnace.
Notes
Smelting it into Black Metal at a Blast Furnace costs two Coal per bar, because the furnace burns one Coal every 15 seconds and takes 30 seconds to make a bar. It holds 20 Coal and 10 scrap at a time, and it stops working if the smoke above it has nowhere to go.
