The skinny one hanging back behind the spears, wearing a skull and waving a feather staff, is the Fuling Shaman, and it is the most important target in any Plains fight. It has a hundred health, less than a Greydwarf, yet it will cost you the whole fight if you leave it standing. "Kill it first" is less a piece of good advice than the only tactic there is.
Behaviour
A Shaman stays out of melee. It hangs at the back of a group, letting the Fulings and Berserkers hold the front, and from there it does two things. First, it throws a fireball about every three seconds. The fireball is slow, but it travels an absurd sixty metres before fading and lands heavy fire damage with Burning attached, so it can hit you from outside a camp's palisade and keep hitting you all the way back to your ship. Second, every forty seconds it casts a protective barrier on every ally within six metres, a shield that absorbs a hundred damage each before it breaks. In a packed village that one cast can soak up more damage than the Shaman itself has health, and two Shamans working together will keep a Berserker shielded almost nonstop. If something does reach it, it jabs with its staff, a short two metre poke that still deals a hundred blunt damage, so it is far from harmless up close. It does not sleep or flee, and it follows the group wherever the fight goes.
Where to Find It
Shamans are village fixtures. They use uncommon fixed spawn points inside Fuling Villages in the Plains, usually near the larger huts and Bonfires. Unlike ordinary Fulings they do not wander the open grass, so a Shaman almost always means a structure nearby. The other place you meet them is your own front door: the raid event "The horde is attacking!" very reliably sends one along with the rest of the mob, and that is when a base defence built around a single choke point stops working. They cannot be tamed, and unlike most Plains creatures they always spawn without stars, so every one you face has the same hundred health and the same cooldowns. Nothing gates them beyond reaching the biome, which in practice means finishing the Mountain and arriving in Padded or Black Metal gear.

Strengths and Weaknesses
One good arrow usually settles it. With a hundred health and no meaningful resistances, a Shaman dies to a single charged shot from a Draugr Fang, a thrown spear or one swing of anything Black Metal. The whole difficulty is reaching it before it starts to matter. Open the fight with it: pick the Shaman out of the group at range and drop it before the melee closes in, because once you are inside a village with three Fulings on your shield you will never get a clean line on it again. If you are fighting at range yourself, break line of sight instead of trying to dodge the fireball, since it flies far enough that sidestepping in open ground just puts you in the splash. When one is already shielding a group, spend cheap, quick hits on the barrier rather than dumping a heavy two-handed swing into it, because a hundred points of absorption melts quickly under fast hits. In melee it staggers instantly and a parry sets up an easy kill, but standing next to a Shaman means standing next to everything it was protecting, which is rarely a trade worth taking.
- It is immune to Spirit damage.
Drops
The scrap and coins are ordinary Plains loot. The Bukeperries are the odd one out: they give you food poisoning on purpose, which clears a meal you want to swap out early.

Notes
- In ancient Norse societies, shamanism was linked to Seiðr, a form of magic tied to telling and shaping the future.
