A Giant Herring is worth more on your head than on your plate, since it goes into the Fishing Hat. They hang in the shallow water just off the Swamp shore.
How to Get It
Fish for them from the bank or a small boat along a Swamp coastline, with a Fishing Rod and Sticky Bait, the only bait they take. Sticky Bait is mixed at a Food Preparation Table from twenty Fishing Bait and an Abomination trophy, so you have to kill one of the Swamp's walking tree hulks before a herring will bite. Fishing Bait itself is bought from Haldor, so keep Coins on you. A catch sometimes comes up with Iron Ore tangled in it.
Quality
A fish does not have stars. Instead it has a quality from 1 to 5, rolled when it spawns: most waters give a 20% chance to step up a level, and the Ashlands and Deep North give 15%. A higher quality fish is visibly larger, weighs more and cleans into more Raw Fish at a Food Preparation Table.
Notes
- It has a unique line: "What's that nasty smell? Surely it couldn't be me!"
- When caught, it has a chance to also give Iron Ore.
