Iron Ore is the one metal in Valheim that no pickaxe will ever find. Instead of coming from a vein, it comes up on a fishing line, pulled in with the Giant Herring that swim off the shores of the Swamp.
What It Is For
| Used In | Amount | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | 1 | Smelter |
How to Get It
Giant Herring only bite on Sticky Fishing Bait, which you make at a Food Preparation Table from ordinary bait and an Abomination trophy, so an Abomination has to fall first. Fish the open water just off a swamp coast with a rod, and the ore comes up as an occasional bonus alongside the fish, not on every catch. Refine it in a Smelter with coal exactly as you would Scrap Iron.
Notes
- Like other metals, it cannot be teleported without a Portal Stone.
- Smelting it into Iron burns Coal. The Smelter uses one coal every 15 seconds and takes 30 seconds per bar, so every bar that comes out of the chute costs two coal. It holds 20 coal and 10 ore at a time, and it stops if the smoke above it has nowhere to go.
