Gael is a Katakan, one of the Vampires. It fed on the people of Oxenfurt, in the Novigrad region. It is the target of Contract: The Oxenfurt Drunk, which hangs on the Oxenfurt notice board.
Lore
Monsters are not all alike. Like people, single members of one species can have their own habits, tastes and weaknesses. Gael is a good example. This katakan lived close to the hard-drinking students of Oxenfurt. Over time it grew fond of blood mixed with plenty of strong alcohol. It also came to love trinkets and flashy jewelry of every kind.
The boozy diet suited the vampire well. Gael grew unusually strong. It learned to heal its wounds quickly and to cause heavy bleeding with its claws. It could also melt into thin air and appear again behind its foe.
Like every katakan, Gael looks like a huge bat with long fangs and even longer talons.
Behaviour
Gael hunted the drunks of Oxenfurt, close to the town's taverns. Between attacks it hid in a hideout of its own. Its taste for drink is also its weak spot. A witcher who gets drunk and walks near the tavern becomes the perfect bait.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Vampire Oil. Gael can vanish and strike again from behind. Keep Quen up to soften that surprise attack. Catch Gael in a Yrden trap and strike hard while it is held. Igni also works against it. Moon Dust and Devil's Puffball bombs are useful as well.
Gael's claws cause heavy bleeding, and it regains lost health quickly.
Baiting Gael means drinking cheap wine first, so the blood tastes just the way it likes. The drink makes every swing a little harder to aim. A witcher who wins this fight still faces a second battle the next morning, against a strong hangover.
Gael Map Location and Quest Guide
- Read the contract on the notice board in Oxenfurt.
- Talk to the Redanian officer.
- Talk to the medic and look over the victims' bodies with Witcher Senses.
- Talk to the witness and examine the place where the monster was seen with Witcher Senses.
- Talk to the innkeep and get drunk to bait the katakan.
- Walk around near the tavern until Gael attacks.
- Track Gael with Witcher Senses to its hideout and get inside.
- Kill Gael and take a trophy.
- Collect the reward from the Redanian officer.

Gael is hunted in Contract: The Oxenfurt Drunk, in Oxenfurt in the Novigrad region. The notice on the Oxenfurt board leads to a Redanian officer. He sends the witcher to a medic and to a witness. The medic keeps the victims' bodies, and a look over them shows the killer is a vampire. The witness points to the place where the monster was seen.
These clues reveal a katakan with a taste for blood soaked in alcohol. The innkeep sells enough drink to get properly drunk. Then a stroll around the tavern draws Gael out. The vampire is fought twice. After the first clash in the street, it is tracked with Witcher Senses to its hideout and killed there. Its body yields a Katakan Trophy, the Deargdeith sword, a key to the hideout and a Katakan Mutagen. The Redanian officer then pays the reward.
