The Nightwraith is a Specter that looks like a pale, withered woman in a tattered dress. It haunts the fields and meadows of Velen after dark. It is far more dangerous than it looks.
Lore
Nightwraiths give off an immense sadness and a helpless wrath. The elven trobairitz Aelline Altsparr put it this way: "I fear them, same as anyone. But most of all I feel sorry for them."
Next to other creatures of the night, such as katakans, nekurats and werewolves, nightwraiths may not seem very dangerous. After all, how much harm could a pale, withered woman in a torn dress do? The answer is quite a bit. It is far better to avoid crossing fields and meadows at night than to find out the hard way. Nightwraiths have rarer cousins, known as duskwraiths.
One nightwraith in Velen is known as Jenny o' the Woods. She was once a young woman of Midcopse, and she came back to haunt her village after an early death parted her from her beloved.
Behaviour
Like Noonwraiths, nightwraiths are only found in the countryside. Travelers are their most common victims. If legends are to be believed, they also sneak into huts at times and murder peasants in their sleep.
Nightwraiths are creatures of the dark. They are strongest at midnight, when the moon hangs high in the sky. Old wives' tales say a person is safe from them by day. That is not true. Nightwraiths also appear in sunlight, but they are much weaker then than after dusk.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Specter Oil. A nightwraith stays immaterial for most of the fight, so blows pass right through it. It only takes solid form for the brief moments when it strikes. Trap it with Yrden or hit it with a Moon Dust bomb to force it into solid form, then attack.
When weakened, a nightwraith creates several copies of itself. These projections cannot attack directly. Instead, they work as channels through which the nightwraith drains its victim's life.
