Jenny o' the Woods is a powerful Nightwraith, one of the Specters. She haunts the fields outside the village of Midcopse in Velen. The villagers gave her that name and posted a bounty on her. She is the target of Contract: Jenny o' the Woods.

Lore

Jenny o' the Woods was once Zula of Midcopse, a young woman from the village. An early death parted her from the man she loved. People say true love's flame is never put out. That love kept Zula from finding peace in the next life. Instead, she came back to haunt her old home as a nightwraith.

Zula did not die a natural death. She was killed with a knife out in the fields. Her body was dragged away and buried in a shallow grave, together with a letter of hers. Bolko, the ealdorman of Midcopse, could hardly believe it. "So... That's to mean... our Zula's the wraith?"

The wraith might have killed every last person in the village. Then a famous witcher came to Velen in need of a bit of coin and took the contract.

Behaviour

Nightwraiths only appear in the countryside. They look like pale, withered women in tattered dresses. They rise after sunset and roam fields and meadows lit by the moon. Travelers fall victim to them most often. Legends also tell of nightwraiths sneaking into huts to murder peasants in their sleep. They can appear by day as well, but they are much weaker then than after dusk. Jenny keeps to the fields around Midcopse, close to where Zula died.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Specter Oil. Fighting her is extremely hard, and most Signs do little. Yrden is the key. Jenny spends much of the fight immaterial, and then no blow can touch her. She becomes solid only for the brief moments when she strikes. Lay a Yrden trap, lure her into it and punish her while she is caught. A Moon Dust bomb also forces her back into solid form.

When weakened, Jenny vanishes and calls up lesser nightwraiths. These mirror images confuse her opponent and fight at her side. They also leech health from their victim and pass it to her. Kill them as fast as possible. The longer they live, the more health she regains. Once she turns into a cloud of smoke, catch it with Yrden and follow up quickly with Igni.

Above all, never fight her in the middle of the night, when the moon hangs high in the sky. That is when a nightwraith is at her strongest.

Jenny o' the Woods Map Location and Quest Guide

Take the contract from the notice board in Midcopse, in Velen.
Talk to the ealdorman of Midcopse, then question the witnesses.
Search the nearby fields with Witcher Senses.
Follow the trail of the dragged body to a shallow grave.
Read the letter found in the grave, then ask the ealdorman about the lovers.
Burn Zula's letter and the dried blood from the knife to lure the nightwraith out.
Kill the nightwraith and take a trophy from her remains.
Return to the ealdorman to collect the reward.

Jenny o' the Woods is hunted in Contract: Jenny o' the Woods, in Velen. The bounty hangs on the notice board in Midcopse. Bolko, the village ealdorman, explains the problem and sends the witcher to the people who saw the monster.

The trail starts in the nearby fields. Witcher Senses show where a body was dragged away. The trail ends at a shallow grave holding Zula's letter. The names in the letter tell Bolko who the dead woman was and who her lover was. Burning Zula's letter and the dried blood from the knife lures the nightwraith out. After the fight, a trophy is taken from her remains and the ealdorman pays the reward.
