Ursine Crossbow is the best crossbow for crit damage. It is the crossbow of the Ursine set (Bear School), witcher gear from the base game. It has +210% attack power and 10-12 damage at level 29. It is crafted from a diagram found in Melusine's caverns on Spikeroog, during Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear. It is mid-game gear, with its scavenger hunt pitched at level 20.
Its bonuses are +210% attack power, +1% adrenaline gain, +2% crit damage, +5% crit chance and +15% bonus experience from monsters. Its 10-12 damage matches the Feline Crossbow for the highest of any base game crossbow. Its attack power sits between the Feline Crossbow at +225% and the Relic Crossbow at +200%. The crossbow brings flying monsters down and is the only usable weapon underwater.
Set Bonus
The Ursine set is heavy armor. With 3 pieces, when a Quen shield breaks, there is a chance that a new one is cast at no Stamina cost. The chance rises by 5% per set piece. With 6 pieces, damage dealt by abilities that involve Quen rises by 200%. The set has 5 tiers from basic to grandmaster, and the crossbow belongs to the basic tier. The bonuses count the six armor and sword pieces.
How to Get Ursine Crossbow
- During Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear, find the diagram on a skeleton with a letter in Melusine's caverns, south-southwest of the Old Watchtower on Spikeroog. This is the same cave as Contract: Here Comes the Groom.
- Have a blacksmith craft the crossbow. A journeyman can make basic tier gear.
Ursine Crossbow Map Location and Quest Guide
The pin marks Melusine's caverns, the sirens' cave south-southwest of the Old Watchtower on Spikeroog in Skellige. The Ursine Crossbow diagram lies on a skeleton high on a ledge, with a letter to Ingeborga Kalebsdotter. The cave is one stop of Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear, and Contract: Here Comes the Groom leads there too.
- Start Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear by finding any of its diagrams, or by buying one of Ibrahim Savi's maps from the armorer at Kaer Trolde.
- Go to Fort Etnir, north of Rogne, and kill the gargoyles and the ice elemental.
- Loot the skeleton in the eastern room for the silver sword diagram, and read the knight Chalimir's letter to learn of the Ruined Inn.
- Go down to the lower level of the Ruined Inn, kill the wraiths and loot the steel sword diagram. Read the innkeeper's notes.
- Travel to the sirens' cave south-southwest of the Old Watchtower on Spikeroog.
- Enter the cave and climb the ledge above the tunnel.
- Follow the ledge to the skeleton slumped against the cave wall.
- Loot the skeleton for the crossbow diagram and the letter to Ingeborga Kalebsdotter.
