Mahir Motors is an Indian maker of cheap vans and buses. Its vehicles sit in the Economy class, at the bottom of the Night City car market. Mahir's best-known model is the Supron, a boxy van that costs little, breaks often and is easy to fix. The company also builds the MT28 Coach, a self-driving bus on the highways of North America. Mahir is the brand for buyers with big needs and small budgets.
History
Mahir first appears in the story of another carmaker. When the American maker Thorton needed a small car, it had little experience with them. Thorton bought engines for its Galena from India's Mahir Motors. The Database says the partnership was not a success, and the Galena gave unremarkable performance and even less remarkable sales.
The Supron shows what Mahir stands for. Its Database entry opens by saying everyone wants a Rayfield or a Herrera, but not everyone can afford one. Mahir built the Supron for the rest. Its biggest selling point is that it is cheap as borscht. The van is made from cheap plastic, textiles and wishful thinking. It breaks down often, but it is easy to fix. Its size suggests it can haul a heavy load, yet its weak engine might give up under one. The Supron's short description is harsher. It says the van scored an F minus in crash tests, and one expert called it part guillotine and part meat grinder at high speed.
The MT28 Coach takes Mahir onto the interstates. The Database says self-driving vehicles nearly wiped out driving as a job for freight and passenger transport. Autonomous Mahir coaches are now a common sight on major highways. They never need a break and cause far fewer accidents than human drivers. The entry then tells a darker story. On one non-stop route, a fault in a coach's operating system broke its air conditioning and door locks. The bus reached its stop, but every passenger had cooked to death in the heat. The Mahir board did not think that a minor error in a secondary system should spoil the coach's good name.
Mahir also sells other economy cars, such as the Eraz, the Iridon and the Futrix.
Vehicles
Mahir builds the Supron line for V. The Supron FS3 drives the front wheels with a weak engine. It is slow to pick up speed and clumsy in turns, so it suits calm trips rather than chases. It is also one of the cheapest vans on the Autofixer netpage at €$ 16,000. The Supron FS3-T sells for €$ 26,000.
The Supron BARGHEST belongs to BARGHEST, the militia that holds Dogtown in Phantom Liberty. The Supron "Trailbruiser" is an armed custom Supron that unlocks through vehicle contracts for El Capitan and sells for €$ 94,000.
Notes
- The Mox drive custom pink and blue Suprons near Jig-Jig Street in Westbrook.
- A scan of the Supron wrongly names Makigai as its maker, while its side plates still show the Mahir logo.
