Makigai is a Japanese maker of small, cheap cars. Its cars belong to the Economy class, the cheapest tier on the road. Makigai builds affordable passenger cars, and they are a familiar sight on the streets of Night City. Its MaiMai is the cheapest mass-produced car in the city, a tiny hatchback built down to a price. The Tanishi is the small car that V first drives in Dogtown.
History
Makigai built its name on cheap cars for ordinary buyers. The MaiMai sums up its approach. The in-game Database calls it the perfect car for anyone on a tight budget. Every design choice served a single goal, which was to cut costs. The car is as small as possible while still fitting two slender people and one shopping bag at most. The engine was probably stolen from a lawn mower. The plastic is as durable as a disposable fork. The safety ratings barely keep the car street-legal. The entry ends with a jab at the idea that corporations no longer look out for their customers.
The Tanishi is the other side of the brand. In Phantom Liberty it becomes V's first car in Dogtown, the walled district run by BARGHEST.
Makigai cars greet their drivers in Japanese, a small touch that marks the brand's home.
Vehicles
Makigai builds two model lines. The MaiMai is a tiny, light car with a small engine. The MaiMai P126 drives the rear wheels and sells on the Autofixer netpage for €$ 22,000. The MaiMai E126 is the other MaiMai on the road.
The Tanishi is the second line. The Tanishi T400 is free. Mr. Hands leaves it for V after V leaves the Kress Street hideout during the main job Lucretia My Reflection. The Tanishi "Kuma" is a custom model that unlocks through vehicle contracts for El Capitan and sells for €$ 35,000.
