Operating System
The Operating System slot holds the one implant that decides how a build fights. The slot takes a single implant, so the choice shapes the whole character. Three families share it: Sandevistans, Berserks and cyberdecks. A Sandevistan slows time for everyone except its user. A Berserk makes a melee fighter very hard to kill for a few seconds. A cyberdeck unlocks quickhacks and sets how much RAM a netrunner has. The Chrome Compressor is the odd one out. It gives up the active power for a large amount of Cyberware Capacity.
Effects
Sandevistans slow time while the user moves at full speed. The button starts the effect, and a second press stops it early. The models differ in how much they slow time and what they add on top. The Militech Apogee slows time by 85%, the most of any Sandevistan. The Militech Falcon slows it by 70% and heals on every kill. The Dynalar Sandevistan halves the speed of the world and adds Crit Chance and Crit Damage. The Zetatech Sandevistan slows time by 30% on the ground and by 60% in midair. The QianT Warp Dancer slows time only a little. In return, it raises Mitigation and resistance to Thermal, Chemical and Electrical damage.
Berserks are built for melee. While a Berserk runs, incoming damage drops and Health cannot fall below a quarter. Melee attacks cost no Stamina. When it ends, each enemy neutralized during the window restores a quarter of max Health. The Moore Tech Berserk is the lightest model and does only this core job. The BioDyne Berserk adds attack speed, Crit Chance and double Crit Damage. The Zetatech Berserk adds a Superhero Landing with Blunt Weapons. The Militech Berserk makes its user fully invulnerable instead of only cutting damage.
Cyberdecks let the user upload quickhacks to enemies and devices while scanning. Each deck sets the RAM pool, the number of quickhack slots and the buffer size. Each tier of a deck also adds a new bonus. The Militech Paraline rewards a mix of quickhacks, Smart weapons and the Monowire. The Raven Microcyber makes quickhacks spread farther. The Tetratronic Rippler rewards quickhacks that blind or disable. The Biotech Σ makes damage over time from quickhacks last longer and hit harder. The NetWatch Netdriver strengthens quickhacks sent through cameras and other devices. The Arasaka Shadow is built for stealth. It slows enemy traces, makes Covert quickhacks cheaper and restores RAM after each takedown. The Militech Canto Mk.6 is an Iconic deck from Phantom Liberty. It is the only cyberdeck that carries Blackwall Gateway, a quickhack that jumps from enemy to enemy and shuts down robots and turrets.
Pros
- A Sandevistan gives time to line up headshots or reach enemies before they react.
- The Militech Apogee and the Militech Falcon can start at any charge level. A short burst leaves the rest of the charge for later.
- A Berserk keeps Health above a quarter, so a melee fighter cannot die while it runs.
- A cyberdeck is the key to every quickhack. Its tier also decides which device quickhacks are available.
- The Chrome Compressor costs no capacity, and it frees room for heavy implants in other slots.
Cons
- The slot holds one implant. A Sandevistan or a Berserk rules out quickhacks completely.
- A Berserk limits its user to melee weapons and locks items such as Health items.
- The Warp Dancer needs a full charge before it starts.
- The Chrome Compressor gives no active power at all.
Cyberware Categories
Best Operating System Cyberware
| Name | Image | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Militech Apogee Sandevistan | 85% time slow, the deepest of any Sandevistan | |
| Militech Falcon Sandevistan | Heals on every kill while time is slowed | |
| Militech Berserk | Full invulnerability while active | |
| BioDyne Berserk Mk.4 | Double Crit Damage for fast blades | |
| Militech Canto | Blackwall Gateway, found on no other deck | |
| Raven Microcyber | Spreading quickhacks for whole groups | |
| NetWatch Netdriver | Half-cost device and vehicle quickhacks | |
| Chrome Compressor | Up to +70 Cyberware Capacity for free |
The Militech Apogee is the best Sandevistan in the game. The Militech Berserk is the only Berserk that blocks all damage. The Raven Microcyber suits a netrunner who clears rooms, while the Netdriver suits one who fights from a camera feed.
Character Builds
Each family matches an attribute. Every Sandevistan is attuned to Reflexes, and each Reflexes point adds a tenth of a second to its maximum duration. The Moore Tech, Zetatech and Militech Berserks are attuned to Body. Each Body point adds a small damage bonus during the Berserk. The BioDyne Berserk is attuned to Reflexes instead and adds Crit Chance per point. Cyberdecks belong to Intelligence.
- Ticking Time Bomb sets off a charged EMP whenever a Berserk or Sandevistan starts. It also triggers on Overclock.
- Extended Warranty adds 15% duration to all cyberware effects, including every operating system.
- Cyborg cuts all cyberware cooldowns by 15% when every available slot is filled.
- Bullet Time makes Bullet Deflect free of Stamina whenever time is slowed. Deflected bullets then hit enemies for Crit Damage.
- Road Warrior lets a Sandevistan run while driving.
- Overclock lets a cyberdeck cast quickhacks with too little RAM by paying with Health. The Tier 5 bonus of the Paraline, Raven Microcyber, Tetratronic Rippler and Biotech Σ needs it.
Other cyberware supports the slot. The Newton Module and Axolotl shorten cooldowns, so a Sandevistan or Berserk comes back sooner. The Kerenzikov slows time for a moment during dodges and slides. It covers the gaps while a Sandevistan recharges. Netrunners pair a deck with RAM implants such as the Camillo RAM Manager and the RAM Reallocator. Both restore RAM when it runs low.
Notes
- The Militech Paraline is the cyberdeck a new character starts with.
- The Militech Canto Mk.6 is crafted on Reed's side of Phantom Liberty, after Somewhat Damaged and the side job This Corrosion. Only one decoded component is available, so the Canto rules out the Erebus.
- At Tier 5, the Arasaka Shadow stops quickhacks from adding to the trace while Overclock is active.
- The Apogee extends its window and restores Stamina with each kill. The Falcon restores Health with each kill instead.
- The Warp Dancer reaches 60% resistance to Thermal, Chemical and Electrical damage at Tier 5++.
- The Zetatech Berserk's Superhero Landing needs a Blunt Weapon and a Quick Melee press in midair. The Quake perk also unlocks a midair slam without this Berserk.
- At Tier 5, the Tetratronic Rippler uploads Reboot Optics and Weapon Glitch to every enemy within 8 meters when Overclock starts.
- The Biotech Σ resets the timer of every running damage over time quickhack when Overclock starts.
- The Chrome Compressor's capacity bonus grows from +40 at Tier 2 to +70 at Tier 5++.
