The Man Who Killed Jason Foreman is a Phantom Liberty gig from Mr. Hands in Dogtown, Pacifica. Leon Rinder, one of Kurt Hansen's former gunmen, killed eight people in the Longshore Stacks, and the families want him dead. Briana Dolson, the unofficial voice of the Stacks, hires V to find him. The truth behind the killings is not what anyone expects.

Story

No Answers

Mr. Hands says in the journal that the Stacks have seen better days. Leon Rinder killed eight civilians in cold blood. Nobody knows why he was there, what made him snap, or why Hansen threw him out of Barghest. Only one thing is certain: the families of the victims want Rinder dead. First, though, he has to be found.

The Vigil

Briana waits at the evening vigil in the Longshore Stacks, where the community mourns Jason Foreman. She tells V that Jason was gunned down by a crazed Barghest soldier, and hands over a shard. Around the scene, V can scan the clues: bloody bullet holes in a wall, huge boot prints in the mud, a box of spent cartridges, and a fallen failsafe on the roof of a container.

Los Osos

Once cracked, the shard holds a talk between Jason and Slava Makarov, a Scavenger. Jason was a go-between, linking a supplier of top grade Militech chrome to the Scavengers. The trail leads to an old motel in Pacifica, Los Osos, now a Scavenger hideout. On the top floor, as V opens a door, a huge Scavenger named Yasha Ivanov attacks.

Rinder

Behind that door lies Rinder, bedridden. He reaches for his pistol, but is too weak, and only knocks it out of his own reach. The clues fall into place. One of Makarov's ideas pushed Jason to demand a bigger share from his supplier, Rinder, which may have helped drive Rinder into cyberpsychosis.

The Stacks

  1. Meet Briana at the evening vigil in the Longshore Stacks, between 10 PM and 6 AM.
  2. Talk to Briana and follow her upstairs.
  3. Crack the shard.
  4. Investigate the area and scan the clues.

The Motel

  1. Go to the old motel, Los Osos. Sneak past or take down the lone guard and the camera.
  2. Find Rinder, working up through the motel.
  3. Defeat Yasha Ivanov on the top floor.
  4. Get to Rinder and confront him.

The Dog Tags

  1. Take Rinder's dog tags.
  2. Exit the building.
  3. Deliver the dog tags to Briana.

Choices

Rinder's Fate

V can kill Rinder, or let him live. A spared Rinder gives V the coordinates of his stash, a garage in Terra Cognita, which starts the side job Addicted To Chaos. Either way, V takes his dog tags for Briana. Sparing him first and then killing him still gets both the stash and the tags.

Calling Regina

After investigating the scene, V can work out that Rinder suffers from cyberpsychosis. Use these lines: "You killed Jason and seven others.", "What about all those years you spent doing Hansen's dirty work?", "'Whatever I did'? Let me enlighten you." and "Sounds like you have cyberpsychosis." Ask Johnny whether to call Regina, then put the gun to Rinder's head and tell him to call her.

Regina later texts that she took him in, that he does have cyberpsychosis, and that he is in treatment. Rinder thanks V by text. Later still, he writes that he wants to make amends to the community with some money for Briana, and V can encourage or discourage him.

Briana pays eddies on delivery of the dog tags.

Tips

Investigating the scene before going to the motel is what opens the way to send Rinder to Regina.
