Pikemead's Reach

Pikemead's Reach
Type Settlement
Region Revelwood
Sub-region -

Pikemead's Reach is the fallen capital of Embervale, a great city in the east of Revelwood. Queen Pikemead ruled from here, and her son Gormander took the throne after her. Lord Vorgoth's army from the north besieged the city, broke its walls and killed his brother the king. Today the Shroud fills the streets, and the Fell rule every district. The castle, The Pike, stands at the northern end, where the Fell Wispwyvern boss waits. The city's gold chests hide the pieces of the Guard of the North Set, Vorgoth's own armour.

Where to Find Pikemead's Reach - Map Location

The city lies in the east of Revelwood. The Elixir Well west of Pikemead's Reach sits in the Shroud between the city and the Ancient Spire - Revelwood. The Pike rises at the northern end, and Skimmer's Cove lies to the north-west. A Flame Shrine stands just south of the city, a good area for a forward Flame Altar.

Enemies

The Fell dominate the Shrouded east of Revelwood, and the capital most of all. A Fell Thunderbrute guards the Shroud Root in Huckster Square, and another patrols the bridge to Pike's Port. Most of the city lies in the Shroud, so the Flame Shrines and the Return Beacon matter here.

Unique Loot

The Guard of the North Set is armour whose descriptions follow Lord Vorgoth's march on the city. Each of its pieces lies in a gold chest in a different district: The Pike, the Imperial Gardens, Huckster Square, Pike's Port and the Shanty Shacks. Every piece lowers the time allowed in the Shroud. The Royal Set, a cosmetic outfit, waits in a gold chest behind the throne room of The Pike. The Gravedigger Set is buried in the graveyard of the Imperial Gardens. The Cryptic Wand, found in an attic, is a wand covered in ashes whose body bends but never breaks.

Lore Pages

The city's notes tell of its last days. On the board before the Flame Sanctum, "Good Folk, Heed This Warning:" tells people to keep away from the crumbling Skimmer's Cove. It also says the king denies sightings of a beast in the water. Beside it, "Glory Rises From the Depths Once More" hails the return of the glowing Wisps as a good omen. In "Veiled In Holy Light", Raúl and his wounded friends shelter in the Flame Sanctum, where the Fell will not come near. "Ancients Help Us" lies on stairs by the Shroud Root. Its writer is locked outside the lowered gate as the soldiers of Rimgard break in.

About Pikemead's Reach

Pikemead's Reach was the capital of Embervale when the kingdom still stood as one. Its old walls were said to be impenetrable during Queen Pikemead's reign. Tales say mysterious lights glowed under the water near the capital as a sign of her glorious rule. Commander Cyrus led the northern half of Queen Jezmina's caravan here, hoping to find refugees. He found only a burnt-out pyre still choking the horizon in blue smoke, and pressed on towards The Pike. A ring engraved to Cyrus was later found in the maw of the castle's beast.

What's Inside

How to Unlock

The Blacksmith gives Reach The Capital, Pikemead's Reach after Crucible Needed For A Smelter. He feels a dark presence at the capital and fears a strange glow from the depths of the riverbed. The first step is to reach the city. The city shows no sign of the glow, so the second step leads through the streets to the castle, The Pike. The last step is to defeat the beast in the castle courtyard. The quest pays the Fell Wispwyvern Head, the key item for strengthening the Flame to level 4.

Tips

A Flame Altar just south of the city makes a quick return point. Most of the city lies in the Shroud, so the Flame Shrines and the Return Beacon are worth reaching early. The boss Fell Wispwyvern sprays Shroud at marked spots, breathes Shroud ahead of it and sweeps with its tail up close. Its pounce lands where the target stood, so moving after it leaps avoids the hit. When it roars, it summons Fell Beetles, and a hit to its mouth during the roar stuns it.

Notes

  • Lore says the walls were unbreachable under Queen Pikemead's rule; caravan notes describe the city as a burnt-out ruin.
  • Tales speak of lights glowing under the water near the capital.
