Cinder's Cradle is the far northern region of Embervale. It was added to the game with the v1.0 full release. It lies beyond the gates past the Veilwater Basin and fills the north of the map that was closed off before. The region has two layers. Below is a barren wasteland where lava flows between ancient ruins. Some of these ruins are lost to the Shroud, and others to time and decay. Above the lava, the Ancients lifted the earth into a realm of floating islands. Tendrils of the Shroud link the two layers and reach upward to snuff out a sacred light. In size, the region sits between the Blackmire and the Veilwater Basin.
How to Get to Cinder's Cradle
The way in is the Ancient Gate, between Cromville Hot Spring and Lake Luma north of the Veilwater Basin. The gate opens at Flame level 10, which also raises the maximum number of Flame Altars in a world to 15.
Flame level 10 needs the Broken Guard of the North Crown. It comes from the quest Crown of Sorrow: the crown sits on the throne in the Cromville Throneroom. The castle lies north of Cromville Hot Spring and is reached over the ramparts. Bombs may be needed to open the path.
It also needs 16 survivors and the following materials:
| Name | Image | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Spark | 60 | |
| Gleam Root Dust | 15 | |
| Piscine Ivory Dust | 10 | |
| Drak Blood | 30 | |
| Shroud Sludge | 10 | |
| Daylily | 30 |
The quickest route is a Flame Altar near the gate. Without one, the trip starts at the Veilwater Basin Ancient Spire and heads north.
Ancient Spire
Cinder's Cradle has two Ancient Spires, one on the Sky Islands and one at the Citadel, both fast travel points. Scaling the Ancient Spire unlocks the Cinder's Cradle Stargazer achievement.
Obelisk Locations
Obelisks with readable texts stand across Cinder's Cradle, one of them the Ancient Obelisk below the Shroud. Reading every obelisk in the region unlocks the Cinder's Cradle Secret Keeper achievement. The quest Obelisk Research follows Loraine Crim's notes to the older obelisks in the Revelwood, the Nomad Highlands and the Kindlewastes.
Locations
Lava flows between the ruins of the lower wasteland. The floating islands above hold unusual creatures, intricate Ancient buildings and unrelenting guardians. Higher-tier locked chests and doors here need Archaic Lockpicks.
Below, the Ancient Gate leads to the Battlegrounds, Loraine Crim's Research Camp, the Celestium Mining Site and Cinder's Ascent, the teleport platform in the middle of the region. The Drak'Dal hold camps, an outpost and a small cave. Six beacon dungeons, one for each older region, sit inside Cinder's Cradle and must all be lit to power Cinder's Ascent.
Above, the Sky Islands hold the Gardens Of Earthly Delights, the Council Chamber, Andromeda's Eye, Manathor's Plaza, the Worker's Ward and Proto Vessel Bay. The Ancient Citadel is the capital of the Ancients and home to Mother Flame's Domicile. The Shroud Heartlands and a Shroud Lair lie in the Shroud.
Every named place, its kind and its level:
Shroud
Shroud Roots grow across the region, and destroying them is part of clearing it. Destroying every Shroud Root in the region unlocks the Cinder's Cradle Weeding achievement.
Resources
The region holds valuable materials to mine. Celestium Ore comes from deposits left by meteorite impacts, Moonstone is found only where the Ancients passed, and Diamond is found in the Shroud. A Mill grinds Basalt, Moonstone and Diamond into dust, and the Blast Furnace smelts Celestium into bars. The new crops need Basalt Farm Soil. Mining every valuable material in the region unlocks the Mole of the Cinder's Cradle achievement. These materials feed a new crafting tier of equipment, tools, food, arrows and spells. The same tier unlocks new furniture, props, building blocks and plants.

Creatures
A completely new enemy faction lives in Cinder's Cradle: the Ancient Constructs, machines of the Ancients that guard the last secrets of Embervale. They take extra damage from blunt weapons and ice, and resist poison and lightning. Archaic Shards drop from all of them and the Archaic Core from the elite ones.
- Ancient Constructs: the B.L.D.R., C.R.T.R., G.A.R.D. (Burner, Dozer and Slicer), G.T.H.R., G.U.N.R., M.I.N.R. and S.I.R.N. Constructs.
- Fell: the Fell Black Knight and the Fell Sentinel are new, and the Fell army of the older regions fills the Shroud.
- Flaming Scorpions roam the lava wasteland.
- Drak'Dal hold camps in the lower wasteland.

Gear
A new armor set unlocks with each Flame upgrade and is made for the region ahead. Gear from this tier can be upgraded further than before. Loraine Crim crafts Vorgoth's Soulbound armor from Vorgoth's Bound Essence and the Shroud Vessel's Greatsword, and the Blacksmith makes the Celestium Pickaxe. The Hunter and the Alchemist add Celestium and Moonstone arrows and Eternal spells of the new tier.
Lore
The story of Cinder's Cradle reveals the truth about the Ancients and the corruption of the Shroud. The boss Lord Vorgoth led the Shroud into the cradle of the Ancients and left diary notes along the way. His goal is the Mother Flame in the Ancient Citadel, the last haven of the Ancients. The last Flame level lets Flame Altars push back the Shroud. Even then the Shroud lingers, and the Fell keep looking for new ground.
Notes
- The player level cap rises to 50 with this tier, and gear can be upgraded to level 55.
- Enemies here range from level 46 in the lower wasteland to 50 on the Sky Islands.
- Bring upgraded gear and the most efficient food before facing the guardians.
