The Dead Raiser is a magic staff in Valheim, carrying 48 block armour, or 96 when used to parry at its 2x bonus. It is a summoning staff: casting it raises a Skelett, a tame Skeleton that fights for you, and the staff deals no damage of its own at all.
How to Craft
- Crafted at Galdr table, station level 1.
- Costs 10x Bone fragments, 16x Refined eitr, 4x Skeleton trophy at quality 1.
- Materials can be found in the Mistlands biome.
When to Use It
Mid game. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black forge, so it is behind Yagluth and the sea crossing after him. 2 biomes still sit past this one: the Ashlands and the Deep North both carry better gear.
Upgrades
Upgraded 3 times after crafting, each level wanting the station built one step further up than the last. Every figure quoted elsewhere on this wiki is quality 1, so this is the ladder your own copy is somewhere on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Maximum Skeletons Controllable | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Galdr table (Level 1) | 1 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Galdr table (Level 2) | 2 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Galdr table (Level 3) | 3 | 300 |
|
| 4 | Galdr table (Level 4) | 4 | 350 |

Properties
What you get is a 400-health Skelett with a sword and a bow, hitting for 50 slash and 40 pierce. It is weak to blunt and fire, resists pierce and frost, and is immune to poison, so it survives a Swamp far better than an Ashlands fortress.
The Eitr cost is the real gate. 100 Eitr and 40% of your current health a cast. No single food in the game pays for it at low skill: Blood magic 47 is the point at which one Seeker aspic is enough, and below that you need 2 eitr foods and give up a health or stamina slot to do it.
You only need the Eitr at the moment of casting. Summon first, then eat for the fight, and the Skelett stays. That is the usual way round the cost.
Notes
- Skeletts cannot swim or drown. They walk along the seafloor instead, which is occasionally useful and often very slow.
- They are always tame and can be petted, and they can be shielded with the Staff of Protection exactly like a player.
- Killing your own Skelett before you hit the summon cap frees the slot, so a bad roll can be re-summoned deliberately.
- The staff glows purple-pink and costs about 10% extra visibility while sneaking.
