Vilebone Cage is for the player who has decided the answer to the Plains is to hit harder rather than soak more, because its set trades armour away for faster regeneration and heavier blows. It gives 18 armour, or 24 fully upgraded, which ranks 7th for armour among chest pieces. Worn with the rest of the Vilebone Set, it is part of a 48 armour rating, which turns a 100-damage hit into 52.

Made at a level 2 Forge from:

  • 4x Bear Hide: Dropped by Bears, and by Viles in the Plains.
  • 3x Vile Ribcage: Dropped by Viles in the Plains.
  • 4x Linen Thread: Spun from Flax at a Spinning Wheel.

Mid game. Viles in the Plains, the biome after Moder, drop its Bear Hide and Vile Ribcage.

Notes

  • Movement penalties from the chest and leg pieces stack, so a full heavy set slows you by 10% before you even draw a shield.
  • Armour reduces physical, fire, frost and lightning damage. It does nothing against poison or spirit damage.
  • Each upgrade level adds +2 armour to every craftable piece except Rag Armor.
