6th Street is a gang of war veterans that runs Santo Domingo. It began as a neighbourhood watch that would stand up to the gangs where the police could not, or would not. Today it is just as self-serving as the gangs it once fought. For 6th Street the end justifies the means, and the means are usually robbery, extortion, arms dealing and car theft.
History
The Founding
The gang was founded by veterans of a war between the corporations who were tired of the chaos that followed it and of a police force that could not keep order. Led by a former army intelligence officer known as X, they gathered gear, brushed up on their training and took to the streets to protect their neighbours. X built the gang on military ranks, and in its early days he funded it by blackmailing corporate executives. Its aim was nothing less than to replace the corrupt police and bring Night City back into the United States.
The Contractor
6th Street grew across the city and for a time was even hired as an official private police force for part of Heywood, patrolling the streets on foot and on motorbikes. Some called its members guardians and protectors, others nightmares in chrome. Its high ambitions cost money, and the gang turned to extortion, smuggling and selling seized property to pay its bills.
The Fall
Over the following decades, greed and corruption led 6th Street to abandon its ideals. Taking bribes and small protection fees became forcing local shops to pay tribute and outright crime. By the time of the game, it controls most of Santo Domingo and wants more. Shortly before the story, a split over working with the corporations ended in a coup: Will Gunner killed the gang's leader, Rick Morton, and purged his loyalists. The war with the Valentinos is also growing more violent.

Way of Life
The members of 6th Street dress like soldiers, with combat boots, tactical vests, cargo pants and caps with flags, stars and eagles. Most are veterans of recent wars, retired soldiers or former corporate guards who could not find other work, along with former police officers. The rest are civilians who got military training after joining. They still claim they bring justice to the city, but their idea of the law is questionable and self-serving.
Militech and Kendachi supply their weapons and cyberware, mostly cybernetic eyes, pain editors and health monitors. The gang's headquarters is in Arroyo, and each district under its control has its own local base that patrols the streets and watches over the gang's sites.
Business
6th Street lives on robbery, extortion and gun smuggling. It has strong ties with nomad groups inside and outside the city. Its techies run garages that steal and rebuild cars, and the gang hires itself out as an armed taxi for mercs.
The corporations and the police mostly leave the gang alone, as long as it stays on its own turf. Arms makers find buyers for their best products, and the gang's rough law keeps the streets quiet for the police.
