Desperate Measures is a Thievery gig from El Capitan in Arroyo, Santo Domingo, open after the second meeting with Rogue in Ghost Town. Pedro Aimar, a Zetatech programmer, has ALS and only months to live. His company will not pay for the full body conversion that could save him, so he plans to steal a Zetatech automated truck full of AV thruster parts and sell them. He needs V to do the dangerous part.

Story

A Tearjerker

El Capitan tells V to get the tissues ready in the journal. Pedro Aimar thinks he is a great netrunner because he wrote a few algorithms for Zetatech, and now he wants to rob them. He has health problems, and Zetatech will not chip in for his operation. A corp that does not care about its employees: El Capitan is practically speechless, and the tears are splashing onto his screen. It is life and death, he says, and Pedro, like El Capitan, really needs the eddies. Pedro already has a buyer for the truck's high grade tech.

Pedro's Plan

In his motel room, Pedro explains. He found a Soviet ripperdoc, Dr. Federov in Abakan, Siberia, who says he can do the operation fairly cheaply. The hundreds of thousands of eddies from the heist will cover the cost and more. Pedro has quietly changed Zetatech's delivery routes so a truck passes through the same spot at the same time every day. All V has to do is get inside and slot a shard, so Pedro can take over the onboard computer.

The Heist

At 5 PM, the truck crosses the junction outside the Kenmore Diner, and Pedro stops it with traffic barriers. Once V slots the shard, Pedro drives it toward the drop off, a Tirempire garage near Megabuilding H4. On the way, Zetatech security catches up.
