Mizutani is a Japanese maker of sports cars. Its cars belong to the Sport class, built for street races and fast escapes from the NCPD. The Shion, a low and aggressive coupe, is its signature model and a common sight in Night City's illegal street races. The Hozuki is a smaller hatchback with the same sporty spirit. Nomads rebuild the Shion for the desert, and several armed nomad cars start life as Mizutanis.
History
The in-game Database calls the Shion a sports coupe par excellence. Its streamlined, aggressive lines say so at a glance. Its five-cylinder engine gives it real speed and a quick start off the line, all at a reasonable price. The Database ties that mix of style, speed and price to the car's success. The Shion is a common sight on Night City's roads, above all after dark, when illegal street races tear through the city.
The nomads found their own use for the Shion. The Database admits the standard car is a city car, built for smooth roads. It would grind to a halt at the first rocky hill in the desert. Nomads fit upgrades, reinforcement and better suspension. After that, the Database says, the Shion cuts through harsh terrain like a laser knife through butter. The armed nomad Shions carry machine guns as well.
Mizutani is one of the partner brands of Rayfield's CrystalCoat technology. Mizutani cars that support it can change their paint job and light colours on demand. The Autofixer netpage marks these cars with a spray can icon.
Vehicles
Mizutani builds two model lines. The Shion is a two-door sports coupe. The Shion MZ2 has an upgraded turbo, more tyre grip and a stronger drivetrain, which makes it the fastest car in the Mizutani range. It drives the rear wheels and sells on the Autofixer netpage for €$ 57,000. The Shion MZ1 and the open-topped Shion Targa MZT share the same body.
The nomad Shions trade that city polish for toughness. The Shion "Coyote" drives all four wheels, carries forward machine guns that reload on their own, and sells for €$ 77,000. The Shion "Samum" is another armed Shion that unlocks through vehicle contracts for El Capitan and costs €$ 87,000. The Shion "Bonewrecker" is a gift from Saul, the Aldecaldo leader.
The Hozuki is the newer, smaller line. The Hozuki MH2 sells on the Autofixer netpage in Phantom Liberty. The Hozuki "Hoseki" is a custom MH2 that unlocks through vehicle contracts and costs €$ 37,000.
Notes
- Saul gives V the Shion "Bonewrecker" only if V tells him about Panam's plan in the main job Riders on the Storm. That choice ends the romance with Panam and closes her later jobs.
- The armed Shions fire their machine guns straight ahead, so V aims them by steering the car.
