Things Done Changed is the epilogue of the Phantom Liberty ending in which V accepts Solomon Reed's cure. V wakes up from a long, medically induced coma in a military hospital. The Relic is gone, but so is much of V's old life, and the job follows V back to Night City to find out what is left.
Story
The Hospital
V wakes up in the Edward Kernaghan Military Medical Center, with Reed at the bedside. Reed explains that the operation to remove the Relic worked, but it left V's brain permanently damaged and unable to handle cyberware. He offers V a job with the government, so V can at least go on living, and lets V get in touch with friends.
The journal speaks in Johnny's voice. V may think all is lost, and in a way that is true, but V also gets to live on. Someone out there may be waiting for V to come back. V should start calling friends, acquaintances and associates, then return to Night City and build a new life, or find traces of the old one. And if none of that works, there is always something beyond the horizon.
The Calls
- Viktor Vektor is glad to hear from V. When V shares the diagnosis, he says the doctors are wrong and tells V to come and see him.
- Judy Álvarez is surprised and relieved that V is alive. She now lives in Pittsburgh and is married to a woman named Bianca, and she will not join V's next adventure. If V romanced her, she apologises and asks V not to come between her and her wife.
- Panam does not answer, and V leaves a message. Mitch later sends a video saying that Panam does not want to talk, and that V should not call again. Any romance with her ends.
- River Ward is angry at first, until V explains the coma. He has sold what he knew about the NCPD to Trauma Team to pay for Randy's rehab, and he is now a wanted man. Too ashamed to meet V, he ends the call.
- Kerry Eurodyne is happy to hear from V but busy on a concert tour at the Crystal Palace. If V romanced him, he promises to meet again when the tour is over.
Night City
V returns to Night City and takes a Delamain cab to Viktor's clinic, which is now a Zetatech franchise. On the way, V and the cab talk about how the city has changed. Viktor examines V and agrees with the government doctors: V's brain no longer answers to implants.
Outside, street thugs beat V up, a hard reminder of V's new weakness. Misty arrives and helps V up. She is moving to Poland, and she gives V advice on living as an ordinary person. V can share different hopes for the future. Misty leaves, and V fades into the crowd.
