Solomon Reed is a sleeper agent of the Federal Intelligence Agency, the FIA, and one of the best agents the New United States ever had. In his prime he could match legends like Morgan Blackhand, but he never wanted fame or medals. He found something greater than himself in serving his country, however dirty the work. He is the central ally of V in Phantom Liberty, and his path leads to one of its endings.
Biography
The Agent
Reed served in the special forces of the New United States in South America before he joined the FIA. His record includes stopping assassinations and talking hostages free, but also blackmail, sabotage and coups. He became an expert at finding spies and netrunners, getting information out of people and breaking into guarded places. He recruited and trained Song So Mi, the netrunner known as Songbird, and treated her as his protégé. He also brought the braindance actress Alex into the agency.
The Unification War
During the Unification War, Reed led the FIA cell in Night City, working against Arasaka and the Free States. As the war went on, his agents were picked off one by one. When the war was lost, the President ordered the cell shut down. On his last night in the city, Reed rescued a captured agent from an Arasaka killer and boarded a maglev train out of the city on a plan set up by Songbird. An assassin waited on the train.
Reed survived, but he spent months healing, and the government declared him dead. Arasaka had demanded his death as a condition of the ceasefire, and President Rosalind Myers had agreed, ordering Songbird herself to arrange it. Reed accepted the betrayal as part of the job. He stayed loyal and waited in Night City as a sleeper agent for years, working as a bouncer at a bar owned by the fixer Dino Dinovic to pay his bills.
Dogtown
When the President's space plane crashes in Dogtown, she tells V to call Reed on an old analogue phone hidden in an abandoned restaurant. Reed meets V on a basketball court and joins the effort to get Myers out of the district. He then works with V and Alex to rescue Songbird from Kurt Hansen, the warlord of Dogtown. During the operation Reed learns that the Blackwall is slowly killing Songbird. He promises to help her, but he suspects she has plans of her own and prepares a powerful ICEbreaker to stop her if she runs.
Personality
Reed is calm, patient and deeply loyal. He speaks little and listens much, and he believes in gathering information and waiting before acting. His sense of duty runs so deep that he forgives his own government for selling him out. He cares for Songbird like a father, and that love clashes with his orders.
Relationships
Songbird is his former student and the person he most wants to save and bring home. Alex is an agent he recruited and an old friend. Rosalind Myers is the President who betrayed him and whom he still serves. Kurt Hansen is his enemy in Dogtown. Dino Dinovic gave him work as a bouncer.
Jobs
Reed's part of Phantom Liberty runs from The Damned and Get It Together through You Know My Name and I've Seen That Face Before to Firestarter, where the story splits. Birds with Broken Wings is the path that stays with him.

Endings
If V sides with Reed and uses the ICEbreaker, they track Songbird to the abandoned Cynosure facility and hand her over to the FIA. Reed later moves to a desk job training new agents. He arranges the treatment that removes the Relic from V, and when V wakes from a long coma, he offers V a job with the FIA.
If V lets Songbird die instead, Reed is disappointed, but he later admits on the basketball court that V's choice was right. If V sides with Songbird and helps her flee, Reed hunts them both and meets them at the spaceport with a gun drawn. He dies there if V fights him, or he takes Songbird back if V changes sides at the last moment.
Notes
