Commander Gaius is a legendary boss in Elden Ring. It comes from the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Commander Gaius is the albinauric general of Messmer's army who rides into battle on a giant boar. He waits on the open plain of Scaduview behind the Shadow Keep. His charges are fast and wide, and he adds gravity magic as the fight goes on. Torrent can be ridden in this fight.
Lore
Gaius is a huge warrior in black iron armor riding a giant wild boar. He has no legs, so the boar he called his other half carries him. He swings a heavy greatsword and pulls blades of stone from the earth with gravity magic.
Gaius was an albinauric, cursed from birth, and the most senior disciple of the Alabaster Lord who taught Radahn gravity magic. He and Radahn were friendly rivals in their youth. He and Messmer were as elder brothers to the young lion.
Black iron greaves were made for Gaius as a cruel joke, for he could never wear them. He rose to command Messmer's armies in the wars that followed.

Phases
- Phase 1: Gaius fights with boar charges and greatsword swings.
- Phase 2: he alternates boar charges with gravity attacks, including a meteor charge from the air.
Attacks
- Wild Boar Rush: he charges as soon as the player enters. A roll into him at the last second avoids it.
- Greatsword swings: standard damage swings from the saddle. Staying at the boar's sides and back avoids most of them.
- Gravity Plunge: one of his most dangerous gravity attacks. Moving away from the landing point avoids it.
- Meteor Charge: in phase two he lifts into the air before charging. Dodging into him as he comes down avoids it.
- Blades of stone: rock blades pulled from the ground. Chip damage from these adds up over a long fight.
Tactics
- Mix the Greenburst Crystal Tear and Opaline Hardtear into the Flask of Wondrous Physick before the fight.
- Summon Black Knife Tiche as soon as the fight starts.
- Stick to his sides and back, especially in phase one.
- Use heavy and jump attacks to break his stance.
- Dodge into him during the boar rush and meteor charge.
- Heal carefully, because his charges punish flask use.
