Mother Flame

The Mother Flame is the source of life of the Ancients in Enshrouded. She burns at the top of The Ancient Citadel in Cinder's Cradle, in Mother Flame's Domicile. The last main quest, Cinders Of The End, ends with the fight against the boss Lord Vorgoth and the rescue of the Mother Flame.

Lore

The Mother Flame gives every Ancient a spark, its soul. When an Ancient returns to her with what it has learned, she takes the spark back and later sends it out again, wiped clean. A spark lives in a shell, a body that crumbles to dust at the end. An Ancient who dies far from the Flame is lost until it is returned to her light.

She once made a new spark every solstice. Now a new Ancient comes only once a decade. The elder Manathor blamed the young Ancients who meddled with humanity.

When the Shroud reached the sky islands, the Mother Flame called every Ancient home to the Citadel. The Artificer Constantio left his construct work to answer her call. The ascent of their land had stalled halfway, so the Ancients gave their own bodies to her as fuel.

The boss Lord Vorgoth believed the Ancients were hiding a weapon that would rain fire on his lands. Near the Citadel, the Mysterious Wanderer told him to douse the Mother Flame so that he could become whole. Beating him frees the Mother Flame, but the Shroud still gnaws at her light. In the end the Flameborn gives up their own inner fire to save her.
