Aegisbane is a unique iron warhammer with 18 base damage and the heirloom of Clan Shatter-Shield of Windhelm. The bandit Alain Dufont stole it and carries it in Raldbthar, where he is the target of Mourning Never Comes.

How to Get Aegisbane
Aegisbane Map Location and Quest Guide
Aegisbane map location:
Aegisbane is carried by the bandit Alain Dufont in Raldbthar. He is the target of the Dark Brotherhood contract Mourning Never Comes.
- Speak to Muiri in Markarth.
- Travel to Raldbthar.
- Kill Alain Dufont and take Aegisbane.
- Return to Muiri.

Gameplay Trivia
- While carrying the warhammer in Windhelm, guards might notice and talk about it. They call it "Aegisbane" and say it belongs to the Shatter-Shields. The guard mentions it was stolen by Alain Dufont and Muiri, making it the same stolen warhammer. Unfortunately, there's no way to return the weapon to its rightful owners.
- Aegisbane is the heirloom of the Shatter-Shields family in Windhelm, it was stolen by Alain Dufont and Muiri. The unique weapon can be obtained by the Dragonborn by defeating Alain Dufont.
- The word 'Aegis' means 'shield' in Greek mythology, so the name of this weapon translates to "shield bane."
- Beyond disenchanting the weapon to learn the frost enchantment Aegisbane is not very useful in normal gameplay. The weapon serves more as a plot device.

Aegisbane is improved at a grindstone with one Iron Ingot per improvement. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
Aegisbane has the same damage at every character level.

Notes
- Guards in Windhelm may recognize it as the Shatter-Shield heirloom stolen by Alain and Muiri.
- Aegis was a shield in Greek myth, so the name means "shield bane", a nod to Clan Shatter-Shield.
