The Ancient Bark Spear is cut from the Ancient Trees of the Swamp and weighted with iron from its crypts. It is light enough to throw at a Draugr across the water and solid enough to hold the line when one wades over. It deals 55 pierce damage. That 55 total damage ranks 7th among spears, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts a Troll more than most things, which is what to carry it for.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 3 Forge from:
- 4x Troll Hide: dropped by Trolls.
- 10x Iron: smelted from Scrap Iron in a Smelter.
- 10x Ancient Bark: chopped from Ancient Trees in the Swamp.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Troll Hide | Black Forest | - | spawn TrollHide
| |
| Iron | Swamp | Smelter | spawn Iron

| Ancient Bark | Swamp | - | spawn ElderBark
|
When to Use It
This is an early game weapon. Iron comes out of the Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, so you can make it once The Elder is down.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one step higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Pierce | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forge (Level 3) | 55 | 100 |
|
| 2 | Forge (Level 4) | 61 | 150 |
|
| 3 | Forge (Level 5) | 67 | 200 |
|
| 4 | Forge (Level 6) | 73 | 250 |
|
Properties
It deals 55 pierce. Ancient Bark comes off the Ancient Trees of the Swamp, and the iron in the recipe comes from the same biome's crypts.
The secondary attack throws it for 1.5x damage, and you get it back. The whole cycle, pick-up included, takes about a second. A thrown spear floats, so if you throw one at a Serpent from a boat, you can recover it instead of losing it to the sea.
Notes
- The 1.04 seconds listed for the throw include picking the spear back up, so that figure covers the whole cycle rather than just the release.
- Thrown spears float, so one thrown at a Serpent can be recovered instead of being lost to the sea.
- The primary attack moves you forward 0.33 m, the least of any melee class, so it will not walk you into a second enemy.
