Chestpiece of the Vanguard is the chest piece of the Vanguard Set. It gives 34 armour at quality 1 plus frost resistance, and its cast uses Elaking Hair Bundles. Together with the hood and trousers it completes the set bonus.

How to Craft

You make it in a Frost Foundry from:

  • 1x Cast: Chestpiece of the Vanguard: poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Bloodgold, Elaking Hair Bundle, Leather Straps and its mould.
  • 5x Liquid Frost: frozen down from ice in a Frigid Kiln.

Upgrades

You can upgrade it twice at the Black Forge. Each step needs the station one level higher than the last, and costs the per-level amount and then twice that. Quality 4, at four times the per-level amount, needs a level 7 Black Forge, above its current maximum of 6, so that row is not yet available.

Properties

The Vanguard Set is the medium armour of the north: 34 armour a piece and 102 for all three at quality 1, rising to 108 at quality 3. Its strength is the set bonus. Worn as a full set, it cuts the stamina cost of running by a tenth and of dodging by a fifth, and it adds a tenth to health regeneration, stamina regeneration and pierce damage. That pierce bonus makes it the partner of the Nord spear, atgeir, bow and crossbow.

Its mould drops from Krigen that fight with a sword or greataxe. The drop rate is three in a hundred from a plain one, six from a one-star and twelve from a two-star.

It gives 34 armour at quality 1 and 38 at quality 3. It weighs 5 and has 1000 durability, or 1400 at quality 3.

Quality 4 needs a level 7 Black Forge, above its current maximum of 6, so in practice it stops at quality 3.

Crafted from scratch and taken to quality 3, it costs 30 Bloodgold, 20 Elaking Hair Bundle and 10 Leather Straps, plus a mould and 5 Liquid Frost.

The Deep North pieces for this slot are the Protector Breastplate with 44 armour and 5 weight, the Vanguard Chestpiece with 34 armour and 5 weight, and the Caller Robes with 22 armour and 5 weight at -2% movement. They all weigh the same, so you are choosing between the Protector's armour, the Vanguard's set bonus and the Caller's eitr.
