Leather Straps drop from the Krigen, the jotun warriors of the Deep North. They are a sturdy yet flexible material and hold the biome's heavier armour together. They go into the casts of the Breastplate and Trousers of the Protector and the Chestpiece of the Vanguard, and into every upgrade of those three. They weigh half a unit and stack to 50.
How to Get It
Every krigen drops one or two straps, or two to four at one star and four to eight at two, whether it fights with a sword, a greataxe or two axes.
Krigen hold the floors of Mörkhalla, and they come with the jotun invasions that breaking its Malicious Ice sets loose in the southern biomes. Once the first krigen or hexen anywhere in the world is dead, they also patrol the open Deep North by day, one or two at a time, so the straps come to you.
A krigen has 1,300 health, 2,600 at one star and 3,900 at two. It resists pierce, barely feels frost and ignores poison and spirit, while blunt, slash, fire and lightning land in full. The dual-axe krigen attacks almost every second for 150 to 170 slash. The sword and greataxe krigen swing every three seconds and charge from five to ten metres away for 160 blunt.
Notes
- Krigen drop the six Protector and Vanguard moulds too, so hunting straps and hunting moulds are the same hunt.
- They also drop Memorial Coal one time in five and the Krigen Trophy one time in ten.
Leather Straps Crafting Recipes
Each cast takes four straps. The Protector breastplate and trousers each take 9 more on the way to quality 3, the most a level 6 black forge allows, and the Vanguard chestpiece takes 6. That makes 36 straps for the three pieces fully upgraded, around 24 plain krigen or a handful of starred ones.
The pieces they hold together are the heaviest in the game. The Protector set gives 44 armour a piece, 132 for the three at quality 1 and 144 at quality 3, more than any other set, and none of its pieces slow you down. The breastplate also gives frost resistance, which keeps off the freezing cold of the north. The Vanguard chestpiece is the medium alternative at 34 armour, and it is part of a set bonus for running and dodging stamina, regeneration and pierce damage.
