The Forge of Potential is a unique point of interest in the Mountain. It works as a crafting station that upgrades weapons, armour and tools with idols.
How It Works
Each upgrade costs one idol of the tier that matches the item, and nothing else. The idol is used up whatever the result.
Each attempt has a 65% chance to raise the item by one quality level. The forge has no level cap, so an item can go past level 4. The other 35% of the time the item is destroyed and you get back 35% of its materials, rounded up: its base crafting cost plus the cost of its current level. Above level 4, each level counts as half a level towards that material cost.
Where to Find It
Up to 10 possible sites for the forge are picked when a world is generated. Each one is inside a Mountain biome away from its edges, at least 400 metres from the others and at least 500 metres from the world centre. The first time a player comes near one of them, the forge settles there for good and the other sites are dropped. Once you find it, an idol icon marks it on the map.
Idols
Notes
- Idols drop from loot chests at points of interest in their own biome, and sometimes in the biome before or after it. They stack to 20 and weigh 0.5 each.
- Each item takes the idol of its own tier, with a few exceptions. The Club, Stone Axe, Flint Spear and Crude Bow use the Wooden Battle Idol, and leather armour and rags use the Wooden Protection Idol.
- The Wooden Sword takes the Bronze Battle Idol rather than the wooden one.
- You can also upgrade the Hammer, Hoe, Cultivator, metal pickaxes, Scythe and Snow Shovel here, which raises their durability. Each forge level adds 200 durability to the Hoe.
- A runestone at the forge tells of Ingrid, whom the gods granted a great boon there, and of Torgunn, whose blade shattered on the altar, as a warning to anyone who tries the same.
