Liquid Frost is ice that magic has turned into fuel, and it is the only thing a Frost Foundry burns. Every cast, whether a Nord weapon, an armour piece, a staff or the Intricate Key, is hardened in the foundry on five Liquid Frost.
How to Get It
You make it in a Frigid Kiln, which takes only ice. Load the ice like fuel: the kiln holds 25 at a time and turns five of them into one liquid frost every 30 seconds, so a full load becomes five liquid frost in two and a half minutes. Each one is pushed out of the kiln as soon as it is made.
In the foundry it burns at one unit every ten seconds, and only while a cast is inside. Hardening takes 50 seconds, so one cast uses exactly five. The foundry holds up to 20, enough for four casts in a row without reloading.
The kiln costs twenty stone, ten frostcores and five ice and has 1,500 durability. You cannot place it on wood, in water or on a slope. The foundry costs fifteen iron, twenty stone and ten frostcores and has 500 durability. Both need a workbench in range to build, and like the smelter, the kiln stops working while its smoke is blocked.
Notes
- Five Liquid Frost weigh 10, while the Ice they are made from weighs 25, so making it at a Frigid Kiln near the ice and carrying the frost home saves more than half the weight.
- It stacks to 50 and can go through a Portal.
- A full Protector Armor, Vanguard Set or Caller Set takes 15 Liquid Frost to cast, which means 75 Ice.
- The Frigid Kiln resists blunt, pierce, slash and chop damage, and fire, frost, poison and spirit damage cannot hurt it at all.
Liquid Frost Crafting Recipes
The foundry hardens the Nord weapons and shields, the staves, the pieces of the Protector, Vanguard and Caller sets, and the Intricate Key. Upgrades never ask for it again, since they are paid in materials at the Black Forge or Galdr Table.
