Hood of the Vanguard is the helmet of the Vanguard Set, the medium armour of the Deep North. It gives 34 armour at quality 1, and together with the chestpiece and trousers it completes the set bonus.
How to Craft
You make it in a Frost Foundry from:
- 1x Cast: Hood of the Vanguard: Poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Seal Pelt, Moose Hide, Moose Sinew and its mould.
- 5x Liquid Frost: Frozen down from Ice in a Frigid Kiln.

Mould
You find the Mould: Hood of the Vanguard in the Deep North:
- It drops from Krigen that fight with a sword or a greataxe.
When to Use It
This is end game gear: you need Fader dead before you can progress through the Deep North.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it twice at the Black Forge. Each step needs the station one level higher than the last, and it costs the per-level amount the first time and twice that the second. Quality 4 would cost four times the per-level amount, but it needs a level 7 Black Forge and the forge currently tops out at 6, so that row is not yet available.

Properties
The Vanguard set is the medium armour of the north. Each piece gives 34 armour at quality 1, so the three together give 102, rising to 108 at quality 3. Its strength is the set bonus. Worn whole, it cuts the stamina cost of running by a tenth and of dodging by a fifth. It also adds a tenth to health and stamina regeneration and a tenth to pierce damage, and that pierce bonus pairs it with the Nord Spear, Atgeir, Bow and Crossbow.
Its mould drops from Krigen that fight with a sword or greataxe. The drop rate is three in a hundred from a plain one, six from a one-star and twelve from a two-star.
It gives 34 armour at quality 1 and 38 at quality 3. It weighs 1 and has 1000 durability, or 1400 at quality 3.
Quality 4 needs a level 7 Black Forge, above the current maximum of 6, so in practice it stops at quality 3.
Crafting it and taking it to quality 3 costs 14 Seal Pelt, 14 Moose Hide and 4 Moose Sinew in total, plus a mould and 5 Liquid Frost.
The Deep North has three pieces for this slot. The Protector Helmet gives 44 armour for 1 weight, the Vanguard Hood 34 armour for 1 weight and the Caller Headdress 22 armour for 1 weight. Since all three weigh the same, you are choosing between the Protector's armour, the Vanguard's set bonus and the Caller's eitr.
Notes
- The hood is the one Vanguard piece made without Elaking Hair. Its cast takes five Seal Pelts, five Moose Hide, one Moose Sinew and the mould.
- Unlike the chestpiece and trousers, the hood cannot be shown on an armour stand.
- Once it reaches its last quality level, the Forge of Potential can push it further with a Bloodgold Protection Idol.
