Elaking Hair Bundle is the dense, coarse and surprisingly clean fur of the Elaking, which roams the Deep North at night. It goes into the biome's medium armour. The Chestpiece of the Vanguard takes eight for its cast, and the Trousers of the Vanguard take another eight. It weighs 1 and stacks to 50.
How to Get It
Every Elaking drops one bundle, or two at one star, and lantern-bearers drop the same. On the open snow they spawn only at night, two or three at a time, with lantern-bearers alone or in pairs. The Winding Tunnels under the abandoned villages are full of them at any hour.
In the tunnels, the wardrobe shafts are Elaking spawners. Each one spawns a new Elaking every ten seconds while a player is within 30 metres, until five are near it, and one in three carries a lantern. These spawns can have up to two stars. That makes a standing shaft a hair farm, as long as you can handle the swarm. Break it and the spawns stop.
An Elaking has 350 health, is weak to fire and resists frost. Without a lantern it claws for 40 blunt and 100 slash, and leaps for 75 blunt, 30 slash, 200 chop and 100 pickaxe. With a lantern it swings that instead, for 65 blunt, 65 slash and 35 fire.
Notes
Elakings without a lantern also drop the mould for the Intricate Key 20% of the time, so farming hair often gets you the mould as well.
Elaking Hair Bundle Crafting Recipes
The two casts take 16 bundles between them. Each piece then upgrades to quality 3, the most a level 6 Black Forge allows, for four and then eight more bundles. Fully upgraded, the two pieces cost 40 bundles in total. The Vanguard hood uses Seal Pelt and Moose Hide instead, so you only need the hair for the chest and legs.
The Vanguard set is the biome's medium armour. Each piece gives 34 armour, so the three together give 102 at quality 1 and 114 at quality 3, with no movement penalty. The full set cuts the stamina cost of running by a tenth and of dodging by a fifth. It also adds a tenth to health and stamina regeneration and a tenth to pierce damage, which makes it the natural partner of the Nord spear, atgeir, bow and crossbow. Its moulds drop from Krigen that fight with a sword or a greataxe.
