Vanguard Set
The Vanguard Set is the medium armour of the Deep North. It gives 102 armour across three pieces at quality 1, rising to 108 at quality 3, and its set bonus suits a fighter who keeps moving.
The hood is cast from Seal Pelt, Moose Hide, Moose Sinew and its mould. The chestpiece and trousers each take twelve Bloodgold, eight Elaking Hair and either Leather Straps or Seal Pelt. All three harden in the Frost Foundry. Taking the set to quality 3 costs 60 Bloodgold, 40 Elaking Hair Bundles, 24 Seal Pelts, 14 Moose Hide, 10 Leather Straps and 4 Moose Sinew.
Its moulds drop from Krigen that fight with a sword or a greataxe. The drop rate is three in a hundred from a plain Krigen, six from a one-star and twelve from a two-star.
The set bonus favours a player who moves: cheaper running and dodging, faster regeneration, and more pierce damage for spears, atgeirs, bows and crossbows. Past quality 3, the Forge of Potential takes every Vanguard piece further with a Bloodgold Protection Idol. You find the idol in chests in Mörkhalla, abandoned villages, northern graveyards and shipwrecks.
Side by side, the Deep North sets compare like this at quality 1, before any upgrade: Protector gives 132 armour for 11 weight, Vanguard 102 armour for 11 weight, and Caller 66 armour for 11 weight with -4% movement.
How to Craft
Every piece is made in a Frost Foundry from:
- 1x Cast: Hood of the Vanguard: Poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Seal Pelt, Moose Hide, Moose Sinew and its mould.
- 15x Liquid Frost: Frozen down from Ice in a Frigid Kiln.
- 1x Cast: Chestpiece of the Vanguard: Poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Bloodgold, Elaking Hair Bundle, Leather Straps and its mould.
- 1x Cast: Trousers of the Vanguard: Poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Bloodgold, Elaking Hair Bundle, Seal Pelt and its mould.
