Explosive Payload is the catapult ammo you load when the thing in your way is a rock face or an Ashlands fortress wall rather than a living target. It deals 100 chop and 400 pickaxe damage. Its total of 500 across all types is the highest damage of any ammunition in the game.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 1 Workbench from:
- 2x Asksvin Hide: dropped by Asksvin in the Ashlands.
- 2x Sulfur: dropped by Lava Blobs in the Ashlands.
- 3x Proustite Powder: dropped by Lava Blobs and mined from unstable lava rock in the Ashlands.

When to Use It
This is late game gear. Asksvin Hide, Sulfur and Proustite Powder all come from the Ashlands, the furthest south the map goes.
Properties
It rearranges the ground. This catapult ammunition explodes for pure chop and pickaxe damage in a 3 metre radius. Like a Lava Blob, the blast changes the terrain instead of only damaging what stands on it.
That makes it as much a mining tool as a siege weapon. It destroys any structure that can take damage, and it digs into the ground.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before anything else is calculated. That is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
- Bows fire arrows and crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
- If you carry more than one kind, right-click a stack to choose which one you use.
