The Explosive Payload is a piece of ammunition in Valheim, dealing 100 chop and 400 pickaxe. It carries the highest total damage of any piece of ammunition in the game, 500 across all types.

How to Craft

Crafted at Workbench, station level 1.
Costs 2x Sulfur, 3x Proustite powder, 2x Asksvin hide at quality 1.
Materials can be found in the Ashlands biome.

When to Use It

Late game. Flametal is in the Ashlands, the furthest south the map goes and, until 1.0, the hardest biome in the game.

Properties

It rearranges the ground. Catapult ammunition that explodes for pure, chop and pickaxe damage in a 3 metre radius, and like a Lava Blob the blast alters terrain rather than only damaging what is standing on it.

Which makes it a mining tool as much as a siege one. It destroys any damageable structure, and it will dig.

Notes

Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before any other calculation, which is why the arrow and not the bow decides a shot's damage type.
Arrows are fired by bows and bolts by crossbows; the 2 are not interchangeable.
With more than one kind in the inventory, right-clicking the stack selects which is used.
