Needle is one of the few materials that comes to you by ambush. It is the sting of the deathsquito that patrols the Plains, and you only get it once the thing that nearly killed you is dead.
How to Get It
Kill deathsquitoes. They drop needles where they fall, and no tool or pickaxe tier is involved. The catch is that they are fast, almost silent until the last second, and hit hard enough to end an underprepared trip to the Plains in one pass. Padded or wolf armour and the habit of parrying when you hear the whine are worth more here than any harvesting kit. Chests inside fuling villages and fuling ruins also hold needles, a calmer way to stock up once you have cleared a village.
