Porcupine is half mace, half pincushion. You build it at the forge from deathsquito needles and flax linen from the Plains, and every swing lands blunt and pierce at once: 50 blunt and 45 pierce. At 95 total damage it ranks 7th among clubs, a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Blunt damage hurts the Growth, Blob and Bonemass more than most mobs, and that is what you carry it for.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 4 forge with this recipe:
- 5x Finewood: chopped from birch and oak trees with a bronze axe or better.
- 20x Iron: smelted from scrap iron in a smelter.
- 5x Needle: dropped by deathsquitos in the Plains.
- 10x Linen Thread: spun from flax at a spinning wheel.

When to Use It
This is a mid game weapon. Its Needles and Linen Thread come from the Plains, the biome after Moder, and since the recipe skips Black Metal you can craft it as soon as you have them.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits on the ladder:

Properties
Blunt and pierce is the worst pair in the game for finding weaknesses. Almost everything weak to blunt resists pierce, and the reverse, so the Porcupine rarely gets a damage bonus. What it gets instead is consistency: very little is strong against both, so it never falls off either.
The recipe skips black metal entirely. It is the only weapon of its tier made that way, so you can craft it the moment you find the materials, without hauling scrap home to a smelter.
Notes
- It glows faintly and gives off a little light even when holstered, which is a small cost when you try to sneak up on something.
