Obsidian comes out of the Mountain in black seams, and the Obsidian Arrow is what most people spend their first load on. It deals 52 pierce damage. That 52 total damage ranks 14th among ammunition, so it is a step up the ladder rather than the top of it. Carry it for the Troll, which takes more from pierce damage than most things.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 3 Workbench from:
- 8x Wood: chopped from any tree.
- 4x Obsidian: mined from Obsidian Deposits in the Mountain.
- 2x Feathers: dropped by crows and gulls, and found in chests in the Meadows.

| Wood | All biomes | - | spawn Wood

| Obsidian | Mountain | - | spawn Obsidian

| Feathers | Black Forest | - | spawn Feathers

When to Use It
This is mid-game ammunition. You can make it once you reach the Mountain, the biome that follows Bonemass, where Obsidian is mined from Obsidian Deposits.
Properties
It deals 52 pierce, the next step up from the Ironhead Arrow. After it, the chain continues with the Needle Arrow.
Obsidian is Mountain stone, not metal, so these arrows come out of a Workbench with no Forge and no smelting.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's own damage before anything else is worked out, which is why the loaded arrow or bolt, not the bow, decides what type of damage a shot deals.
- Bows shoot arrows and Crossbows shoot bolts, and neither can use the other's ammunition.
- With more than one kind in the inventory, right-click a stack to choose which one is shot.
