Ironhead Arrow is the arrow to have on the string before you start the climb into the Mountain. Once the Swamp has given up its Scrap Iron, it replaces every lighter shaft in your quiver. It deals 42 pierce damage. With 42 total damage it ranks 16th among ammunition, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce hurts the Troll more than most things, and that is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
Craft it at a level 2 Forge from:
- 8x Wood: Chopped from any tree.
- 1x Iron: Smelted from scrap iron in a smelter.
- 2x Feathers: Dropped by crows and gulls, and found in chests in the Meadows.

When to Use It
Early game. Iron comes from the Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, so this arrow arrives once The Elder is down.
Properties
It deals 42 pierce, the next step up from the Bronzehead Arrow. After it comes the Obsidian Arrow.
The catch is that pierce is the most resisted damage type in the game, and many creatures cut it. Against those, an elemental arrow from a worse bow beats this one from a better bow.
Notes
- An arrow's damage is added to the bow's own damage before anything else is worked out, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides the shot's damage type.
- Arrows only fit Bows and bolts only fit Crossbows.
- If you carry more than one kind of arrow, right-click a stack to choose which one is used.
