The Grave Hag is a Necrophage that looks like an old, deformed woman. Grave hags lurk near graveyards and battlefields in Velen, such as the graveyard at Lindenvale.

Lore

Few monsters have a name that fits as well. Jacques de Villepin of the Oxenfurt Academy wished men would burn their dead, as gnomes do. In his view, burying bodies in the fields is like laying out a welcome mat for monsters. At best a few ghouls sniff the corpses out, eat their fill and move on. A grave hag that starts feeding at a cemetery brings no end of trouble.

Grave hags eat human corpses. Above all they crave the rotten marrow inside human bones. They slurp it out with long, grasping tongues. Once a hag has eaten every corpse within reach, she turns to killing. She buries her victims in the cemetery and waits for them to rot.

Behaviour

A grave hag is quick and deadly up close, and she slashes at her prey with her venomous tongue. A lash from that tongue can blind its target for a short time.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Necrophage Oil. Keep Quen active and have Yrden ready, since both work well against a hag. Drink Black Blood before the fight as well.

The tongue is her most dangerous weapon, and a well-timed counterattack can cut it off.

A grave hag lurks where the treasure hunt A Plea Ignored begins, far south of Condyle in Velen. It stands near a fallen soldier. His body holds the crumpled letter that starts the hunt.

Another guards the route into Deireadh prison in the main quest The Great Escape. The hag blocks the way as Yennefer and the witcher sneak in to free the sorceress Margarita Laux-Antille.

Mourntart, an especially bold grave hag, is the target of Contract: The Merry Widow at Lindenvale.
