The Slyzard Matriarch is a female Slyzard, one of the Draconids. She nests on a hilltop in Toussaint, the land of Blood and Wine. She is the mother slyzard hunted in Contract: Bovine Blues.
Lore
People often mistake slyzards for dragons. A slyzard breathes fire, strikes with a tail tipped with venomous spines and bites with sharp teeth. Its claws are even sharper, and a sonic blast knocks its prey to the ground. With weapons like that, the mix-up is easy to understand.
Witchers know better. Slyzards are a separate species, much smaller than dragons and far less dangerous. There is one exception: a female slyzard in mating season. Worse still is a female that has just laid her eggs. The bestiary's advice for such a female is blunt. Get as far away as possible, as fast as possible, and never look back.
The Matriarch of Bovine Blues cared for her young. When her wounded young one fled back to the nest, she came to its aid. Such affection is rare among reptiles.
Behaviour
Slyzards carry their prey through the air back to the nest. The Matriarch's nest sits on a hilltop and holds her eggs. Her young one tried to carry a whole cow home. It lost its grip, and the cow fell into the quarry and crushed a worker. The young slyzard also smashed into one of the quarry cranes and was badly hurt.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Draconid Oil. Use the Aard Sign to force her down when she takes to the air. A Grapeshot bomb hurts her badly. Quen helps against her hardest blows.
The Matriarch does not fight alone. Her wounded young one joins the battle at the nest, and both slyzards must die. Watch for her fire breath, her venomous tail and the sonic blast that throws a fighter to the ground.
Slyzard Matriarch Map Location and Quest Guide
- Read the notice on the board in Flovive or at the Ardaiso Quarry.
- Find the quarry foreman and talk to him.
- Examine the cow carcass and the workman's body, and kill the alghouls there.
- Use Witcher Senses to see how the crane was damaged.
- Follow the wounded draconid's blood trail with Witcher Senses.
- Look for clues by the abandoned still, then follow the trail again.
- Climb to the top of the hill and kill both slyzards.
- Take the trophy from the Slyzard Matriarch and destroy the nest if desired.
- Collect the reward from the foreman.

The Matriarch is the final target of Contract: Bovine Blues, in Toussaint. The notice hangs on the boards in Flovive and at the Ardaiso Quarry. Cows are falling out of the sky onto the quarry. The workers there are building a giant statue of the Prophet Lebioda. The workers blame a plague. The foreman needs the work to restart fast.
The cow's carcass and the dead worker point to a draconid. Alghouls gather around the carcass and must be cleared first. A damaged crane shows where the beast was hurt, and its blood trail leads past an abandoned still. From there the trail climbs a hill to the nest. The young slyzard and the Matriarch wait at the top. A trophy is taken from the mother's body, and the nest can be burned for extra experience. The foreman pays the reward, and the quest series Big Feet to Fill begins.
