Corporations

The megacorporations are the true rulers of Night City. They own the towers of City Center, write the laws they need and keep private armies larger than the police. A merc may work for them, steal from them or fight them, but rarely escapes them.

The Great Powers

Arasaka and Militech are old rivals whose war destroyed the heart of the city and left a ruin that took decades to rebuild. Arasaka is back with a new tower in Corpo Plaza, and Militech stands behind the government of the New United States, whose president once led it. Biotechnica feeds the world and fuels its cars, Kang Tao makes smart guns, Zetatech builds drones and AVs, and Trauma Team sells rescue to anyone who can pay.

Corporate Life

The corporations are global giants with political goals of their own, and they fight open or hidden wars against each other. They shape the life of every ordinary person. Every object in a home comes off a corporate production line. Another corporation brings the electricity, and the news on the screen belongs to a media company owned by still others. Even the chrome in a person's body carries a maker's name.

War and Peace

In the Unification War, Militech backed the New United States and Arasaka backed the Free States, and both lost fortunes in equipment. The war ended in a ceasefire that neither side found satisfying, and many believe another war is only a matter of time. Night City stayed independent through it all.

Notes

Many weapons, implants and vehicles carry the name of the corporation that makes them, and those names link here. Night Corp and Petrochem also shape the city, from public works to the fuel stations.
