Police

The police of Night City are the NCPD and its cyberpsycho squad, MaxTac. The force is underfunded, privately owned and spread thin. Whole districts such as Pacifica and the Northside industrial district are left to the gangs. Even so, when people are in trouble they call the NCPD, and it comes as best it can.

Law in Night City

Where the NCPD cannot reach, corporate cops, private guards and gangs such as 6th Street keep their own kind of order. In Dogtown, BARGHEST has its own police unit and keeps the NCPD out. MaxTac is the exception: a five-star wanted level brings it anywhere, even into Dogtown.

The force answers to more than the law. Its official sponsor is Night Corp, which still pays part of its costs, but it also serves the interests of Arasaka and Militech. Apathy and corruption run through the department, and officers like to close cases quickly to keep the figures low. Some officers, such as Detective River Ward, still believe in protecting ordinary people.

Cyberpsychosis

Cyberpsychosis is the name for the madness that can come from implants and behaviour software. Some call it a disease of inequality, others the price of loving technology too much. When a cyberpsycho starts shooting into a crowd, MaxTac is called. Its officers are chromed loners themselves, and the line between the hunters and the hunted is thin.

Notes

The NCPD posts its own crime reports and bounties across the city, and Regina Jones asks mercs to bring cyberpsychos in alive.
