Heroes is the side job in which Mama Welles holds an ofrenda, a traditional remembrance, for her son Jackie at El Coyote Cojo in the Glen, Heywood. It opens in the second act if V sent Jackie's body home to his family at the end of The Heist. V searches Jackie's garage for an offering with Misty, then joins Jackie's family and friends to remember him.

Story

Saying Goodbye

Johnny does not usually give advice, but he makes an exception in the journal. He tells V not to make the same mistake he made: say goodbye to the people V loves. Jackie was V's best friend, and straight people like him are rare in Night City, so the best thing V can do is remember him. Then he adds that if anyone asks, he never said any of this.

After V recovers, Mama Welles asks V to call her. She invites V to the ofrenda for Jackie at El Coyote Cojo. At the bar, she offers V a beer and asks how V is. V wants to take part properly, but is not sure what to place by Jackie's urn. Mama Welles hands V the key to Jackie's garage, sure that V will find something from his past there.

Jackie's Garage

In the alley behind the bar, Misty sits outside the garage door. She says she is waiting for Jackie to come back, though she knows he never will. The two go inside together. V looks for an offering, such as a book, a bottle of tequila, Jackie's belt or a signed basketball. A key on the desk opens a door in the garage, where Jackie had tried to paint a mandala. Misty once told him to drive the dark energy out of the place with one, and seeing it lifts her mood. V can talk Misty into coming to the ofrenda.

The Ofrenda

Back at the bar, V sits beside Viktor Vektor on the couch. Mama Welles, Viktor and a member of the Valentinos each tell a short story about Jackie, and then V has a turn. Afterwards, V talks with Mama Welles. If Misty came, V can ask Mama Welles to be kinder to her and invite her to dinner. Mama Welles offers V the key to Jackie's ARCH motorbike, and V can share drinks and memories with Viktor, the Valentinos, the bartender and Padre.

The Bar

  1. Read Mama Welles's message and call her.
  2. Meet Mama Welles at El Coyote Cojo, talk to her and sit with her.

The Garage

  1. Go to Jackie's garage in the alley behind the bar.
  2. Talk to Misty.
  3. Open the garage and scan and search it if desired. Scan the pin-up posters too.
  4. Find the key to Jackie's room on the desk and open the door.
  5. Choose an offering for the ofrenda.
  6. Talk to Misty and invite her along.

The Ofrenda

  1. Take part in the ofrenda in El Coyote Cojo and sit next to Viktor.
  2. Talk to Mama Welles when V's turn comes, and leave the offering in Jackie's memory.
  3. Talk to the bartender, Viktor, Padre and the Valentinos if desired. Padre is upstairs.
  4. Talk to Mama Welles.
  5. Leave the bar.
  6. Come back after a day for the pistols on the altar.

Choices

Misty

Talking Misty into joining the ofrenda lets V ask Mama Welles to treat her more kindly later.

The Offering

The offering V chooses changes the words spoken at the ofrenda, but not the outcome of the job.

Rewards

Completing Heroes pays 300 experience and 446 Street Cred. It also rewards Jackie's ARCH, La Chingona Dorada (depending on choices) and Jackie's Pin-up Posters (depending on choices).

Mama Welles gives V Jackie's ARCH motorbike. A Nomad V who talked with Jackie about the bike before The Pickup, with enough Technical Ability, gets Jackie's Tuned ARCH instead. About a day after the job, Jackie's Iconic pistols, La Chingona Dorada, can be taken from the altar. Scanning the pin-up posters in the garage adds them to the memorabilia in V's apartment.

Notes

  • If V sent Jackie's body to Viktor instead, the job still happens later. Viktor then explains that Arasaka took the body, and that is all he knows, and the ARCH key arrives in a package at V's apartment a few days after Mama Welles's first message.
  • After this job, the bouncer by the stairs lets V up to Padre for the gig Fifth Column.
