The Ash of War: War Cry is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Heavy affinity and the War Cry skill. It can be picked up early in a run.
War Cry lets out a rallying shout that grants a 40 second weapon buff, raising physical attack power and the weapon's Strength scaling. While it lasts, strong attacks become heavier overhead slams and upward strikes, and charged strong attacks turn into running charges that rush forward into the blow. The cry itself also staggers nearby enemies. It suits Strength builds that rely on heavy attacks with axes, greataxes, greatswords and hammers.
Stats
It grants the Heavy affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Standard, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood or Occult. The skill costs 16 FP. It fits Straight Sword, Light Greatsword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Great Katana, Twinblade, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Flail, Great Hammer, Colossal Weapon, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Hand-to-Hand Art, Claw and Beast Claw.
How to Get Ash of War: War Cry Guide
- Sold by Bernahl for 800 runes at the Warmaster's Shack in Stormhill, and later in the Drawing Room of Volcano Manor once he moves there.
- If Bernahl dies before it is bought, the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold sell it for the same price after receiving Bernahl's Bell Bearing.
- Once obtained, it can be duplicated by trading Lost Ashes of War to Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold.

Skill
The buff is best applied before engaging, then spent on the altered strong attacks, which hit hard and close distance quickly. The charging attacks can be parried, so they work best against enemies that are not parry-capable. As a weapon buff, War Cry replaces greases and armament-buffing incantations, so they should not be combined.
