Elden Ring - Reapers

Bleed and shield-piercing come standard on every reaper, which makes this the most specialized polearm class, built for beating guarded enemies, with the highest raw attack among polearms as a bonus.

Combat

Pros

• The whole class carries an anti-block modifier. Light attacks ignore 50% of a block's damage negation, and heavy and charged attacks ignore more, which no other polearm class can claim.
• Every reaper carries innate blood loss at +0, 55 on Scythe, Grave Scythe, Halo Scythe and Winged Scythe and 68 on Obsidian Lamina, so status comes without spending the infusion.
• Raw physical damage is the highest of the polearm classes. Grave Scythe has 144 at +0 and 352 fully upgraded, ahead of the best halberd (340), spear (301) and great spear (301).
• The damage leader is also the flexible one, since Grave Scythe and Scythe both take ordinary Smithing Stones, accept Ashes of War and can be weapon-buffed.

Cons

• The class is small, with only Scythe and Grave Scythe infusable. Halo Scythe, Winged Scythe and Obsidian Lamina take Somber stones with fixed skills and cannot be buffed with magic or consumables.
• There is no Strength ceiling at all. Full Heavy tops out at Grave Scythe with B Strength (324) and Scythe with B (282), while a Heavy halberd reaches S, so halberds are strictly better for a Strength build.
• Fire and lightning are missing. The only elemental splits are holy (Winged Scythe at 104 at +0 and 254 fully upgraded, Halo Scythe at 76 and 186), and anything else has to come from an infusion on the two infusable weapons.
• Swings are expensive for the reach, with fully upgraded stamina costs of 120 for Grave Scythe and 110 to 114 for the others, against 68 to 88 across the whole Spear class, and Grave Scythe weighs 9.5.

Builds

Three directions are viable, and one is clearly the peak.

• Arcane and bleed is the ceiling: Occult Grave Scythe reaches 310 physical with B Arcane and 50 bleed, or Blood Grave Scythe 296 with 100 bleed, and its high attack rating pairs well with Spinning Strikes, Spinning Weapon or Black Flame Tornado to spread the bleed.
• Dexterity or Quality is the safe default, with Scythe hitting A Dexterity at full Keen (264) and B when fully upgraded on standard (306), and Grave Scythe at B Strength and B Dexterity on full Quality (282).
• Faith is the early-game route, through Winged Scythe at 24 Faith (213 physical and 254 holy, C Faith) or Halo Scythe at 15 Faith (289 and 186).
• Obsidian Lamina asks for 25 Dexterity and 17 Arcane.
• Strength is the one direction not worth taking here.

Notes

• Scythe and Obsidian Lamina share a double-hit windup heavy attack instead of a single sweep, which lands two status applications per heavy attack.
• Grave Scythe grants 50 Death Blight resistance while equipped.
• Beyond its Occult and Blood figures, Grave Scythe reaches 296 on Poison and 324 on Keen, so after a fully upgraded standard weapon the next real gain comes from Occult on an Arcane build rather than from more Strength.
