The Executioner's Greataxe is a Greataxe in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Liurnia of the Lakes, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Why Players Pick It

115 critical, the only Greataxe above 100. Also holds the class's best guard boost and the highest Sta figure. Its own in-game description says it excels at critical hits. The cost is 34 Str and 15 weight, both class highs. 4% drop from axe-wielding skeletons.

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at C and Dex at E, so Str is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 34 and Dex 8 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling.

Critical Damage

Critical 115. A backstab, or a riposte after a guard break, is multiplied by this, where 100 is the baseline most weapons carry.

The highest critical of its class.
It pays for getting behind an enemy or breaking their stance rather than trading hits in the open.

Notes

Bulky cleaver welded to a long shaft. Said to have been used to dispatch the remnants of defeated enemies, felling them like timber. Perhaps that is the reason it excels at critical hits.
