Magma Wyrm Makar is a great boss in Elden Ring.
Magma Wyrm Makar is a flightless, fire-spewing wyrm that guards the top of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice in northern Liurnia. It blocks the hidden path from Liurnia up to the Altus Plateau. Makar was once a human hero, cursed into a crawling dragon for the sin of Dragon Communion. It slashes with a jaw-shaped greatsword and floods the ground with magma.
Lore
Makar is a huge, four-legged wyrm with torn, useless wings and a broad head. It grips a curved greatsword shaped like a dragon's jaw and covered in hard scales, and it spews molten magma from its mouth.
These land-bound dragons are said to have been human heroes who took part in Dragon Communion. For that grave sin they were cursed to crawl the earth on their bellies, shadows of their former selves.
Those who perform Dragon Communion feel their humanity slip away. Once they succumb, they are left as wyrms that crawl the earth.

Phases
- Phase 1: Makar fights with sword swings, bites, body slams and magma breath.
- Phase 2: It spews magma onto its sword and coats the blade in fire, while its moves stay largely the same.
Attacks
- Sword Swings: wide sweeps of the jaw-shaped greatsword; roll through toward its body.
- Magma Breath: it spews a stream of magma that lingers on the ground; move behind it or out of the burning area.
- Side Scorch: it turns its head and spits magma at foes on its flank; step away from the side it faces.
- Fire Charge: it rushes forward while breathing fire on the ground to close distance; sprint sideways out of its path.
- Ground Slam: it lifts the sword slowly and slams it down; roll aside and hit its head.
- Spinning Swipe: it looks back, then whips the sword around in a full circle; roll away or through the swing.
Tactics
- Wear the Flamedrake Talisman and eat a Fireproof Dried Liver to soften its fire.
- Use the large pillar in the center as a shield and to drink flasks safely.
- Lead it around the pillar, then attack from the opposite side with ranged attacks.
- Aim melee hits at its head, its weak spot.
- Summon Great Horned Tragoth, Millicent or Blackguard Big Boggart for extra pressure.

Fire defense with a strike or pierce weapon
Fire protection blunts its breath, and blunt or thrusting attacks get through its scales better than slashes.
