The Sword of Night and Flame is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring.
When to Use It
Mid game. It is found around Academy of Raya Lucaria, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.
Why Players Pick It
The only weapon in the class that scales B in both Intelligence and Faith at max standard, but it demands 24 Int AND 24 Fai, the steepest stat gate of any straight sword.
Upgrades
It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.
Skill
Night-and-Flame Stance costs 26 / 32 FP. Hold the sword level and prepare to cast a sorcery. Follow up with a normal attack to cast the Night Comet sorcery, or a strong attack to sweep forward with a burst of flames. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.
Build
Its scaling runs Str at E, Dex at E, Int at D and Fai at D, so Int and Fai are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 12, Dex 12, Int 24 and Fai 24 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.
Notes
Storied sword and treasure of Caria Manor. One of the legendary armaments. Astrologers, who preceded the sorcerers, established themselves in mountaintops that nearly touched the sky, and considered the Fire Giants their neighbors.
How to Get Sword of Night and Flame Guide
- In a locked room at Caria Manor, Liurnia of the Lakes, which the Tarnished can jump into from above on the walkways where the Raya Lucaria Soldier puppets appear.
- More specifically, starting from the Manor Lower Level Site of Grace walk out onto the stone walkways and take a left when they path splits in two.
- Follow the path as it turn to the right and look to the left when halfway across the last walkway.
- Search for a nearby roof to jump onto and then walk forward to find another roof further down.
- In one of the corners should be a ladder leading down into the inside of a tower with a chest containing the sword as well as a door leading outside.
